I applied in-person. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Scopa (Victoria, BC) in Jan 2016
Interview
Walk-ins are generally how The Guild obtains resumes from prospective new staff. Resumes are often collected by the general manager at the time of walk-in, excepting the rare times that the GM has a day off, or in the case that the prospective employee is seeking a bartending position; in which case, the bar manager will collect the resume. With a good first impression at this point, your resume will be kept on file until a new hire has to be made. If your resume was kept, you will be called in for an interview with the GM regardless of what position you are interested in. The interview is relatively informal. You will sit down with the GM at a table in the restaurant before service starts, be asked some general industry questions, be given an impromptu oral examination of serving/bartending knowledge, and discuss long-term intent concerning a position with the establishment as well as personal goals. Lastly, you will be briefed on the establishments expectations, policy, as well as perks. Considerately, the GM will contact you within a day or two of the interview (regardless of whether or not you were chosen for the position) to congratulate you on your new job or to explain why you were not the most appropriate candidate for the position, respectively.
