I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Ottawa, ON) in Feb 2021
Interview
Applied online on January and got feedback from recruiters after one week. All processes were done remotely.
First round is a Life Story Interview. You will talk about your work experience, school experience and life experience. I began my life from hight school. No technique questions at all.
Second round is a technique interview with two developers in Shopify. You should bring 1-2 projects to demo to them. They will ask you architecture, design questions about your project and asked why you choose this design. No algorithm questions at all.
Finally got my offer a week after the technique interview.
Everyone looks so nice in Shopify. I definitely accepted the offer.

Interview
An initial phone call. Then the remote coding test with one of their engineers. You have to turn the camera on, so they can see you. You can tell the person is very bored of this job and cannot wait to get off. The person must have followed the company guideline to check on you, asking your thinking and what you are doing. The truth is that they do not care. As soon as you finish the code, they hang up. Then the HR will call you for 'Life Story' phone interview. Besides the name, nothing new from an hr interview. She was more than twenty minutes' late of the phone call appointment. Then like some many other suggested that they just ghosted. I checked back with them with an email, and there has been no reply with respect to the status. The coding test was very easy, and the interviewer said that it was a fail-pass test. I passed. It did not help, they still ghosted me.

The process was short. Got the impression that HR are political gatekeepers out of their league. They seemed unqualified to reject based on no digital sales experience...well, not counting building up an ebay store from nothing, and selling apps on the app store, I was under some kind misguided impression I was applying for an engineering role.
I would've like to continue the conversation, but not if they're going to exclude people who want to be there, who are qualified, and have a wealth of independent experience. I made a mistake in thinking they cared, but they're just another place protecting the B players infecting their company. Live and learn, move on.
