      Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at SimpliSafe

      Interview

HR screen -> technical screen -> onsite interview. The first two rounds were fine, No complaints there. However, it was clear they did not care about giving me a good experience in the onsite interview. The onsite interview was scheduled for just shy of 5 hours starting at 11:00 am with a single 15 minute break. The rest was back to back interviews. Do you really expect anyone to perform well when they have ~5 hours of questions? No lunch was provided. That's okay, I don't expect to be fed, but then either (1) don't schedule the interview over lunch or (2) provide a break long enough for me to get my own. It was worse because the company bought everyone boxed lunch that day. One of the interviewers even brought his lunch in the room with me during the interview. At least he didn't eat in front of me, but in my opinion, if the company has enough money to buy a few hundred employees lunch they should get one extra for the interviewee. Lastly I was not given an office or lab tour. The interview room was right next to the reception desk. The kitchen was on the other side and the bathroom down a short hallway. This was all I saw. I don't even know if I would be working in a cubical, at a line of tables, or in an office or anything because I didn't see the space. One of the interviewers asked if I saw the space, and when I responded, no, he proceeded to just show me the kitchen and then took me back to the interview room, as if I was interviewing for a chefs job. I was told most of the team works on the fourth floor, but I never left the third floor... I don't see the point of an onsite interview without a tour. Just let me stay in the comfort of my own home with video interviews instead of forcing me to spend time and money on the commute.
