      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Stripe in Jan 2022

      Interview

All questions were boilerplate "tell me about a time when..." and clearly showed a lack of having even looked at my resume. I got a feeling that I was being judged for my age without any interest in my vast experience. Interviewer seemed bored to tears and just going through the motions.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Stripe (Seattle, WA) in Nov 2017

      Interview

This was an initial phone screen with one of Stripe's recruiting team. The interview was supposed to be a 30 minute phone interview to discuss the role, my resume, etc. Normal phone screen scenario. The recruiter was 5-7 minutes late for the interview, started with general niceties and then advised me she was getting kicked out of the conference room she was in at our 30 minute mark, which meant there was approx 20 minutes total for the interview itself. The interview began by focusing on the role being interviewed for, letting me know what it entailed, etc. She then went through my resume and asked a few questions about my current position, what skills I would bring to the position, etc. Nothing difficult or out of the ordinary for this type of phone screen. With about 3 minutes to the end of the interview she asked if I had any questions for her. I got to ask 2 before she advised me that she would have to end the interview because the room was booked for someone else. At the very end she let me know that my resume seemed to fit the role and that she would pass my resume onto the executive team to look over and would be in touch to schedule an interview. She advised me that I would hear from her again in about 1 week. I didn't hear anything so I emailed her a polite follow up, thanked her for taking the time to speak with me and asked if there was any other information I could provide. I still didn't hear back so approx 1 week later I emailed again, for the final time, and let her know that I was still interested in the role. Radio silence. I appreciate that a company can't always respond to everyone who applies for a role. However, when you have taken the time to start an interview process and then set clear expectations that you would be contacting the candidate again, it's extremely unprofessional to go radio silent. This could be an indication of communication failures that already exist within the company.
