So as someone who loves the environment and is in tune with environmental issues, I thought I would be great for the position. That is not the case! Interview went well for about 20 minutes questions weren’t tricky, learned about the position, and the interviewer learned more about me. We get to the end only because I am not political so the interview got cut short. I was told I should attend some rallies or get involved in organizing them. If being a politically active person was necessary then she should’ve made that known in the beginning instead of essentially both of our time.

Texas Campaign for the Environment is a job you take if you have no other choice. Well that is if you can even get past the “second-part” of the interview. The initial interview is a breeze. They make it seem like you have the job, but first you need to complete an 8-hour unpaid observation day. You will have to do lots of research before about their current canvassing topic, because you must sell the idea that day. If you can’t learn the whole spill that day, then your cut. Another thing is they do not have your trainer watch you as you speak to different households to help correct and train you further, rather you are left by yourself between the hours 8-9 PM (AKA the number one-time people do not want you knocking on their door). Even with the law being you can knock until 9pm, they should not have people on their first day going out that late by themselves. I had more no answers or people instantly telling me go away, than anyone taking a second to listen. Its no wonder people fail the interview constantly. This is not a job for everyone, but people would be more open and comfortable with it if the training was better. You also will be working long hours with no breaks for minimum wage. If you are a past canvasser maybe try it out, but otherwise I would avoid this organization.
