I found the job opening via LinkedIn and applied on their site. I received an email confirmation stating that should I be considered for the position, I will be contacted. Two and a half months later, I received an email stating, "We wanted to follow-up with you on the status of your submittal to the position of DIGITAL MARKETING MANAGER. It has been determined that you background is not a match for the requirements set forth for this position. Accordingly you will not be considered further for this position."
This is perhaps the most curt, off-putting, and below par rejection letter I've ever received. Most companies do address candidates with a greater level of respect, consideration, and professionalism at all levels of communication, including rejections. Although I believe I am extremely qualified and more than capable to meet the demands of the position, I worry others who receive this sort of tone would allow it to discourage them. I certainly hope they don't! Not every position is a perfect match, and that's okay. All in all, I would not be applying to a company that holds themselves above having responsibility of dealing with candidates in a dignified manner.
