Submitted an application online. Heard nothing for at least a month. Received an email saying that they would like to interview me by phone and suggested several dates and times. I accepted. The interview comprised a 25 minute phone conversation with the two PIs. No difficult questions, mostly looking for research experience in their specific research topics.
