I have just experienced a very bad interview at Toptal. The person who conducted the interview has an improper attitude.
He asked me the question in which country I am located, then asked me where I originally came from. After he heard I came from Vietnam.
He assumed like my English should be not good. I am wondering, why you care about my origin?
Then he asked me to explain the solution I did for the first round. The first round happened 2, or 3 weeks ago, I don’t remember the description of the problem and how I solved it. His face doesn’t look satisfied.
I solve tons of problems in Coding Competition website like LeetCode every day, how can I remember the problem and my solutions that happened 2 or 3 weeks ago?
Then he explained the rules, and his explanation is very long, it wasted my time.
He gave me a problem, and the description is not so clear. I tried to clarify, but he was not so friendly to explain me. During that time, his connection was not so good, and I couldn’t hear anything. After a while, the connection came back, he told me that my English is not good, because I am not able to understand the description of the problem, and I have to re-take the interview after 2 years. Again, his explanation wasted my time.
I still wanted to solve the problem, then he gave me time for that. Unfortunately, too much pressure in my head was the reason that I failed.
During most of the time of the interview, the sentence I hear often from the interviewer is: “Unfortunately, you have to do the interview again after 2 years”. And the interviewer is not friendly at all.
