Short call with the recruiter quickly brought an interview with the hiring manager which went very well. She asked me to meet with her team, and then a "Final Interview" with her supervisor. All seemed to go well and I was told to expect a response within 24 hours. A subsequent note said "early next week". The next week, I received a template "moving forward with other candidates..." From a no-reply address. After 4+ hours of interview and the attendant preparation time, I feel a personalized note was the appropriate means of conveying the information.
