I applied for this position online and was invited to partake in an online interview with one of the directors. Not only were they 10 minutes late for the virtual interview (I had to email them in order to remind them of our meeting time), they also doubled down on their lack of punctuality and rushed me along their interview questions.
Although I expected some sort of acknowledgment of this from the start, I brushed it off and tried my best to answer their questions. By the second or third question, I realized the interviewer had either gotten me confused with another candidate or misread my application. Either way, they were interviewing me for the wrong position. When they suggested I “look into” the position I actually applied for, I brought it to their attention that I in fact DID apply for the role they were referring to. They brushed me off and concluded our virtual meeting after impatiently answering the questions I had for them regarding the role and workplace. Once the meeting concluded, I reiterated the confusion in a follow-up email.
About an hour after my first meeting, I received an email from the same person inviting me to take part in the second round of the application process. Although I felt it was strange considering how poorly and awkward the first meeting was, I was still interested in the position.
The guidelines for the second interview basically entailed a presentation , and though the terms of the presentation seemed a little scattered (random buzz words, vague instructions, etc.), I agreed to the in-person second round of the process. I replied with a few clarifying questions about the presentation and was met with short, vague answers.
On the day of the second interview, a second candidate and I were told we would be “presenting” in front of each other as well as the folks interviewing us. Once the other candidate began presenting, it was clear I was only pushed through to the second round of the process in order for the company to meet their interviewee quota. There were a few other random “surprises” during this second interview which I found to be incredibly unprofessional. Although I highly doubt they cared to give me a chance let alone seriously consider hiring me, I withdrew my application from consideration.
