So my friend works at Disney and told me that they were hiring a few seasonal temps and that she was allowed to recommend. I had to apply online via Disney Careers website and put her name as a recommendation (it asks towards the end of the application). It really helps to know someone who works at Disney! I had no experience in retail, besides charity store volunteering. I did have experience being a waitress for a year though. As I applied during the last day of the posting, 2 days later was emailed an invitation to an interview. It was a group interview, scheduled for a few days later. They base the interview time on your listed availability.
Get to the interview at least 10 mins early! I signed in and straight away was given a scenario on a piece of paper - mine was "I have two boys who love Star Wars but I'm on a tight budget". Everyone got different scenarios. We all had to go around the store and select different items that we thought would work with or scenario. They then called us all into the back about 15 mins later.
Even if you're nervous and shaking like crazy (like myself), always smile and seem super friendly. We then introduced ourselves - I said my name, what and where I'm studying in/at college, and my future aspirations. They then asked what our scenarios were and why were chose the products we chose. Remember to be loud and try and seem as confident as possible, even when you're freaking out inside!! I chose a £20 Kylo Ren lightsaber, £10 collection of mini figures from the Force Awakens, and a £15 larger Kylo Ren Doll that lights up and talks. I explained why I chose the products and how they were all reduced prices and how the boys can also share and how even though it was £45 altogether, it's about £15 per boy, which is cheap for quite a lot of good toys. Also I said how children don't really care for clothes, as they do toys. Just really go in depth about everything and show how you really thought it through. I'll add the rest of the questions and my answers below!
I found my interview a bit informal, but in a good way. Even if you were nervous and freaking out, you felt somewhat comfortable. There were a few laughs, etc. As you're all applying for Disney, everyone tends to be friendly and happy. It's a very relaxed interview, but still somewhat serious, if that makes sense. I read TONS of interview questions so I was prepared!
