      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at WillowTree (Charlottesville, VA) in Nov 2017

      Interview

A series of questions printed on the screen, which I recorded my answers to in video. No interaction with a person, other than the email to set it up. Interviewing is always at least somewhat stressful, and only more so when there is no human interaction to pick up social cues from. They already had my resume, in which it is clear that I just graduated from a bootcamp. Note that the position I was interviewed for has 'Entry Level' in the title. The fact that they put applicants through that in this format only to then reject the application based on information they previously had access to says nothing good about how much respect they have for your time. Here is the response I received (from a generic 'team' that cannot be connected with on LinkedIn): Thank you for your recent application to the Software Developer at WillowTree, Inc. Your background aligns with what we are looking for in team members at WillowTree. However, unfortunately, due to the makeup of experience on our current team, we feel that you may need a bit more professional experience. I would like to note that competition for jobs at WillowTree is always strong and that we often have to make difficult choices between many high-caliber candidates. Now that we've had the chance to know more about you, we encourage you to continue to check out our openings on our careers page and re-apply later in the year. Please feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn so we can stay in touch! Thanks again for your interest in WillowTree, and we hope to hear from you again in the future! Sincerely, The WillowTree Recruiting Team

I'm sorry if you feel that we were wasting your time. That is never our intention. We often send people to our second step of a video interview when we want to learn more about their skill set and work experience. We feel that this is a good way to give people a chance to tell us more about themselves if their resume shows some of the basic skills we look for. Since the video interviews generally take less than 20 minutes, we feel that most candidates think it is time well spent. Again, I'm sorry if you feel we did not respect your time.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at WillowTree (Charlottesville, VA) in Nov 2017

      Interview

Applied in August 2017 through Ineed. Soon after got an email to complete a portion where you record yourself. Was a little awkward but ended up being a unique and interesting experience. After this I was contacted for a phone interview which was fairly standard and I got a good feel from the interviewer about the company. Explained more about the company and discussed what the city has to offer. It was mostly behavioral. The next step after this was to have a technical phone interview. The interview was standard in terms of discussing resume and then a problem solving portion. The final step was to be flown out. The company handled everything and I went to their headquarters to meet with several people a part the company. The interviews consisted of a full day of behavioral as well as technical interviews, ending with lunch with one of the engineers. Everyone was very nice and you can tell the engineers are bright and love what they do. Overall I really enjoyed interviewing with WillowTree. The process was long, however that is standard in the software industry. Everyone at the company was very nice and personable. The company has a great culture and it's a company where someone can learn a lot as well as be able to make an impact. I think anyone who has the opportunity to join the company would really be happy with that decision.
