      Interview

My Zoho Interview Experience – A Journey Worth Remembering Zoho has always been a dream company for me, and standing at their office as a shortlisted candidate was a proud moment. The Beginning: Taking a Chance A few weeks ago, my brother sent me the application link for the Technical Writer role at Zoho. Initially,I was not interested because it was not relevant to my technical skills but only to my communication and writing skills. However, I thought, why not give it a try?—after all, I love writing and documentation. So, I decided to apply. The First Step: Shortlisting To my surprise, just two days later, I received a call letter. The first round was at Thiagarajar College of Arts and Science, Madurai. When I arrived, I was stunned—around 4,000 to 5,000 candidates had turned up from across Tamil Nadu and beyond. With no prior experience in technical writing assessments, I spent two days improving my grammar and technical writing skills. Round 1: Verbal Ability Test This round tested grammar, American vs. British english and verbal ability skills. The wait for results was nerve-wracking, especially with my dad beside me, filled with hope. By 4 PM, out of thousands, only 90 to 100 were shortlisted—and I was one of them. My legs were literally shaking. Round 2: Descriptive Writing This round required writing user manuals, release notes, UX content, and blogs. Though I had no experience, I gave it my best shot. A Call That Changed Everything While returning home, I received a call from HR. They informed me that I had cleared the round and needed to report to Zoho's office the next day.I was speechless. Among the 100 candidates from the previous round, I had made it further. Round 3: The Unexpected Change Initially, there were four rounds- Verbal ability, Descriptive Writing, Technical, and HR—but due to the large number of candidates, Zoho increased it to six. Group Discussion At Zoho’s office, we faced a group discussion. After intense deliberations, only 15 to 17 candidates moved forward. Round 4:Technical Round This round focused on documentation, blogs, and structuring content for clarity and usability. Round 5 :Managerial Round The interviewer asked a thought-provoking question:"You are from a Computer Science background. Wouldn’t coding be more appropriate? You’ve spent four years on technical skills—why consider a writing role?" It made me reflect on my choices, and I explained my perspective. The Final Outcome I wasn’t selected, as they felt I was better suited for technical roles. However, they assured me I’d be considered for positions aligned with my skills. But I’m not disappointed. I applied to experience an off-campus interview from scratch, and I did just that. More than anything, this journey reinforced my confidence. I am happy that I am worth it. This journey opened up new possibilities and reinforced my confidence in my skills. This is just the beginning. One day, I’ll be at Zoho—but in a role that truly suits me.
