"Great company to start out in tech"

    Pros

Upper Management (CEO, VP) is really nice and everyone has a voice that can be heard. They also have good intentions. Management sits with all the employees, so there are no barriers.

The overall culture is laid back, but people still work very hard. You'll come to really respect why people do what they do.

Teams are open to collaborating with others (for the most part). You can find yourself working with people from all sorts of departments and learning about the software industry.

    Cons

Upper management is really nice and wants to listen regardless of your "rank", but when you go to them with a concern, not much gets done about it, even if management agrees with you. Management also wears a lot of hats, so that leads to disorganization and inaction.

There's opportunity for growth, but you have to be fine with it being self-made, and having no support for your new role.

Management is constantly hiring entry level roles, which is good if you don't have much experience, but not much is done for developmental growth of experienced professionals.

There are a lot of people in the company, and everyone is able to give feedback on anything. That can be a good thing, but it leads to a lot of disagreements, and pushed deadlines for the simplest of initiatives. Sometimes multiple teams will be working on the same thing because there is no clear direction. This ends up wasting a lot of time.

Middle-management professionals don't have any training to become better managers. Management roles are usually roles they fill with senior people. Sometimes this leads to managers who are horrible at communicating and growing and developing the strengths of their team. Since there is also disorganization at the upper management level, you'll be really surprised at how "rudimentary" some teams still operate in.

HR department only handles vacations/sick leave, expense reimbursements, and hiring. There is no one to go to if you have concerns you don't feel comfortable speaking with management about.

    Advice to Management

Share action items for concerns the company overall is having. Trust in the people you hire if you hire them for their expertise. It's okay if management doesn't know what direction they need to go in. Let your employees help and support them in their initiatives. Stick with decisions to see it through so we have overall direction. We need time to evaluate things, instead of just changing course on a whim. Provide developmental opportunities with experienced professionals. What are you doing to retain people? Unite all departments. Everyone should have the same big-picture goal.
