Job Summary: The Sr Sales Application Engineer coordinates sales activities between customers and IEA sales representatives and integrates sold products into the engineering and manufacturing processes of the company. The Sr Sales Application Engineer receives specific work assignments with limited supervision and resolves most problems independently or in concert with EMT, Production or Engineering staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:
- Prepare detailed technical quotations and formal sales quotations (e.g., pricing, product specifying) for customers.
- Coordinates all order processing activities including sales document preparation, engineering, and production scheduling, and change orders with customers and other IEA functions.
- Negotiates price, terms, and conditions with customers.
- Coordinates and/or conduct pre-sale product demonstrations for customers and representatives.
- Participates in trade show exhibition activities including developing displays, conducting demonstrations, and building relationships with customers and prospects.
- Conducts inside/outside sales calls to potential customers and their professional advisors (e.g. engineers, architects, industrial consultants, etc.) to promote IEA products.
- Reviews the technical specifications and documents of customers and prospects to determine desirability and suitability of IEA products to specific customer applications.
- Analyses sales and customer data to identify industry trends, customer and Company needs, product performance deficiencies, etc.
- Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with and adheres to IEA’s ISO and Quality standards.
- Trains and mentors other Sales Application Engineers.
- Initiates and drives departmental improvements related to documentation, improved efficiency, and processes.
- Runs simulation software in support of predictive modeling (Kuli and Sizing program)
- Supports predictive analysis of new products and their design, size, and configuration.
- Performs cost analysis on proposed heat transfer solutions.
- Participates in quote committee meetings.
- Participates in cross-functional meetings.
- Communicates to up and downstream internal customers.

Work Environment:
- Work location(s): Office; metal fabrication/assembly shop; field visits to customer/supplier sites including domestic/international travel.
- Personal protective equipment requirement: Safety glasses with side shields & Safety Toe Shoes when in shop areas. Additional equipment as per job site/length of stay requirements of Customer.
Position Requirements:
- Key skills, abilities, and knowledge:
- Working knowledge of heat transfer theory, radiator assembly, construction and repair.
- Extensive knowledge of engines and how their systems interact and function.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret technical documents from customers and shop.
- Ability to build and maintain positive customer relationships (in person/phone/e-mail).
- Ability to plan, organize and work on multiple orders simultaneously.
- Extensive knowledge of technical product sales practices and techniques.
- Ability to communicate (oral/written) with customers, employees and others effectively.
- Skill in preparing and delivering sales and marketing presentations to customers and others.
- Working knowledge of operating parameters of the Company’s products.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
- Experiential: Five or more years of technical sales experience with highly engineered products, preferably heat transfer related.
- Educational: Bachelor’s degree in engineering is highly desirable. A bachelor’s degree in business administration and strong technical background may also fit.
- Certificates, Licenses, etc.: Driver’s license; passport (for foreign travel as necessary).
