Description Barnard College is an all-female, liberal arts college in New York City. The school is affiliated with the Columbia University system, but has its own campus, faculty, administration, trustees, operating budget, and endowment. The school offers degree programs in about 50 fields in the humanities, social sciences, arts, and natural sciences. Founded in 1889, the college enrolls some 2,400 undergraduates from 48 states and 39 countries. Barnard was named after Frederick A.P. Barnard, the 10th president of Columbia College, who argued unsuccessfully for the admission of women to Columbia University.
