Mission: Chevron Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial institution dedicated to improving the economic conditions of its members by: Providing a safe place to save and borrow at competitive rates; Being service-oriented and member focused; Providing a broad range of products ...
Welcome to Chevron Federal Credit Union (CFCU). Since 1935, the Credit Union has grown in financial strength and soundness. Our commitment to members' needs has resulted in more than 80 years of success. At the Credit Union, we emphasize timely, accurate, and courteous service because we know how important that is to you.
When you deposit money into a credit union savings account, you become a member and an owner. While other financial institutions pay profits to outside stockholders, credit unions return their net earnings to their own member-owners through high dividends (interest) on savings and low rates on loans.
The Board of Directors sets policy while various committees provide guidance to the Credit Union's professional staff and oversee all aspects of the Credit Union's operations. These unpaid volunteers have a personal interest in the Credit Union's success because they are member-owners just like you.
Credit unions are government-chartered to serve specific, restricted groups of people based on some common bond. Services are typically custom-designed to meet the specialized needs of the field of membership. CFCU's Field of Membership is:
Once you join CFCU, you're a member for life.
Credit unions are cooperative organizations that began in Europe to combat the then-common practice of the wealthy lending money at high rates of interest to those less fortunate. People banded together in protest and started to pool their available money and lend it, at reasonable rates, to their peers in need. "People helping people" is the basic premise of credit unions — then and now.
Most large credit unions provide a full range of services that are equal to or better than those at other financial institutions. Credit unions typically have lower loan rates, pay higher dividends, and often have low or no fees. These are just some of the benefits of being a member of CFCU.
With branches in eight states, our knowledgeable and friendly staff is ready to assist those members who prefer person-to-person service. Members who are not near a branch can rely on our Call Center Representatives, who take care of members all over the world by fax, telephone, and email.
Funds on deposit at CFCU are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the federal government. The share insurance coverage through the NCUA is similar to the insurance coverage provided to banks through the FDIC. Both insurance funds are back by the full faith and credit of the United States.
Chevron Federal Credit Union (CFCU) is one of the largest and most financially sound credit unions in the United States, dedicated to providing great rates and personal service to our members for more than 80 years.
The Credit Union offers a competitive compensation package, including incentive pay for all regularly scheduled employees, as well as an excellent benefits program which currently includes:

I have been working at Chevron Federal Credit Union full-time (Less than a year)
The organization is small enough where your individual contributions can have a positive impact on the organization and its members. It’s also big enough and willing to make the investments in people and technology infrastructure to continue growing and remain competitive. The CEO and executive team members are open and approachable. I’ve also found everyone else to be very personable and professional and willing to take the time to help new employees like myself. Work/life balance has been reasonable with the flexibility to work remote once a week in my department.
Work assignments can sometimes be a hurry up and wait situation when initiatives are still in the early phases, doing a lot of prep work only to have it delayed or cancelled. Being a non-profit, compensation is a bit below the industry average for my position, though not by much. I was surprised that there isn’t a paid Volunteer Time Off (VTO) or a more formalized suggestion program.
Advice to Management
Consider a paid VTO program and/or organization sponsored volunteer efforts. It’s a great way to help foster employee engagement, team building, and community involvement. Perhaps start small with just 5-10 minutes a week (~1-2 hours/quarter) for each employee to dedicate their work time to volunteer projects.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Chevron Federal Credit Union (Concord, CA) in March 2017.
Fairly easy process, there is a thorough background check. The two who interviewed me were very friendly and made the process a lot easier. Besides that portion the interviewing process was clear as what to expect following the interview.
