Vivo Participações is keeping Brazilians in a cellular state of mind. Regarded as the jewel of the regional cellular companies formed by the 1998 breakup of the Telebrás monopoly, Vivo, Brazil's top mobile operator, has more than 30 million subscribers throughout Brazil's wealthiest regions. In 2006 Vivo absorbed Tele Centro Oeste Celular and acquired Tele Leste Celular Participações, Tele Sudeste Celular Participações, and Celular CRT Participações, another cellular company. The company is controlled by Telefónica Móviles and Portugal Telecom. Vivo Participações also provides mobile telephony services for enterprise customers through its VIVO Corporate business division.
