Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

  1. Software Engineer Interview

    Easy Interview
    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Object Computing (Saint Paul, MN) in Dec 2021

    Interview

Was contacted by a recruiter with the company and quickly had a phone screen as well as a first interview.

So far so good, felt promising and the technologies and project looked great.

Then a week went by. Sent a follow up. Got a response that the process was still on going. Another week went by. Sent a follow up. Was assured I was still in the running and that things were ongoing. Another two weeks go by. Same thing.

After 4 or 5 weeks, I let them know I have another offer and asking if they were still hiring or interested. I was assured that yes they were and if I could do a round two interview the very next business day. I said yes. They never follow up with a meeting invite or even contact me by the time they proposed.

I wait a few more days. After obviously having enough of this company and intent on turning them down as I had since moved on, I send one last email asking them why the prolonged process and why the mixed signals. Then they finally send a rejection email with a bunch of excuses.

Overall, a terrible experience that was dragged on in a very unprofessional matter. If they don't get back to you in a meaningful manner, assume the worst and write them off.
