I worked at Object Computing full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * A well established company that has been doing business for over 24 years.
    * Built on a foundation of education and solid software engineering.
    * Amazing people to work with at all levels of the company.
    * They help employees with their careers and understand not all careers or people are built the same.
    * They have training programs, reimburse tuition for education outside of work, have professional mentors and provide pathways for non-traditional career paths.
    * They understand people have lives outside of work, and attempt to keep a good work life balance for all.
    * They treat people fairly.
    * Leaders are open about the challenges, as well as its successes.
    * Leaders seek feedback.
    * Leaders are accessible and approachable.

    Cons

    * More companies should know about OCI and the services they offer.

I have been working at Object Computing full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-- Casual and comfortable working environment where cohesive relationships are formed throughout all departments
-- Very team oriented and employees are constantly recognized and appreciated for their contributions
-- Upper management is very involved and takes the time to learn about their employee(s) career goals/future interests and helps facilitate in their professional development

    Cons

-- Benefits are standard, could be more competitive (matching 401k, more vacation days)
-- Allowing employees to work from home or remotely a few days a week or 100%
-- Need to appear more modern with fun perks to attract younger talent

    Advice to Management

-- I believe management is doing a great job but I there can be improvement in communicating throughout all departments

I worked at Object Computing full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some high end clients who need real science and computer science ruling the solution. In general their alumni and engineers are cream of the crop scientists from physics, physical chemistry, engineering and computer science.

    Cons

Farm out those they deem as consulting fodder with very little training. Admittedly expecting that people they haven't trained have the same intimate tuition their chosen ones have had due to old school tie, or prior university research teamwork.
They are basically pompous, psychophants in management, with a few very influential demogues.
You cannot trust them at their word, they have no integrity in management.

    Advice to Management

The world is bigger more innovative place than a microcosm. You need to get over your intellectual supremacy complex. Your seen as just silly by people even smarter than you.

    Pros

Really proud of our projects and to work along side some of the best software engineers!

    Cons

OCI is not about being fancy and that is sometimes seen as a negative to some folks.

    Pros

Everyone is very professional software engineer, and knowledgeable in the own field. Everyone is willing to help me. I really love to work there.

    Cons

It could be boring to code every day. It is a 9-5 coding job

I worked at Object Computing full-time

    Pros

There are two companies here. (1) OCI, and (2) Advantage Consulting. OCI is full time, paid bench, average benefits. Advantage is more like the other contract firms. There are a lot of great companies on the preferred vendor list of both companies OCI employees can switch to the other company for a good contract (and stay OCI). On at least 4 occasions, I was placed at a customer site WITHOUT an interview. This is due to OCI's incredible reputation. Seriously OCI is cozy with a number of companies -- making it possible to go to a client without vetting. BTW, you can become a Partner and earn more. There are many who have done this.

    Cons

Their benefits won't match up with large companies.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good job, and maybe make more opportunities for development staff to meet managers.

    Pros

Everything is great until you start peeling the onion back and realize you were sold a bill of goods. The owner controls everything and those in the inner circle follow like spineless lemmings.

    Cons

If you like shut doors and backstabbing this is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

I didn’t see any management while I was employed there. If there is the word “manager” in your title go look in a mirror and start laughing.

    Pros

None - I wouldn't want to work for them again.

    Cons

Everyone in "power" is a family member. If one doesn't like you, you are out. There are a few who are long time employees, but if you are not one of those, you have to work hard to get there. The employees are accepting, but the management is not.

    Advice to Management

Reel in your family. Business is not family.

    Pros

Easy to navigate plain english documents above the open source products they support.
Many of their people are very good technically (and many of the people that they say are their best and brightest are not.)

    Cons

Attach themselves to anything that may create a sense of being in the elite echelons of software engineering.

Ar a far cry from the world class rub of there academic associations.

They exploit youth farming them out at elite knowledge rates without any training only to get trained by ex-employees on the job.

Elitists internally towards each other, toward the customer, salesmen treats you like you were born yesterday and comes across fake, and disingenuous.

Like to paint themselves as clever foxes in a stupid world.

    Advice to Management

Hire some extroverts with fathering skills.
