Scooping ice cream at Marble Slab Creamery is more than a job -- it's a workout. The company operates a chain of about 400 franchised frozen treat outlets in 35 states and three other countries. The Slab offers more than 40 flavors of homemade ice cream, upon which "mixins" (sprinkles, nuts, candy) are thrown and then pounded and pulverized until perfectly combined on frozen marble counters. The chain also offers handmade waffle cones, chocolate dips, gourmet desserts, blended coffee drinks, frozen yogurt, and smoothies. In addition, the company provides catering to private parties and businesses. Founded in Houston in 1983, the company was acquired by investment firm NexCen Brands in 2007.
