What We Are
GT is what is called a financial management service (FMS) company. Every day, we help to manage the paperwork and create the technology that let people self-direct their care and support.
- We build apps, web apps, budget tools, and more to make self-direction easier
- We provide support to all people receiving and delivering services
- We make sure that all care and support follows Federal and State Medicaid rules and regulations
But we don’t stop there. At GT, our goal is for every person to have the choice to self-direct.
What We Are Not
Outside of a small pilot program in Wisconsin, GT does not hire caregivers. All caregivers work directly for the people they serve. GT just takes care of the paperwork and cuts the paychecks (kind of like a fancy secretary).
How We Started
The Carmichael family looked at traditional care facilities for their son (and brother). They came away with questions: Why can’t people with disabilities live the lives they choose? Why can’t they stay in their own homes and communities?
This question turned into an idea. And this idea became a mission. The mission grew, branching out into a company—GT Independence—that serves tens of thousands of people across the United States. Today, GT is filled with people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. We work together to serve the people in our communities.
