AVIVA Biosciences develops biochips to speed drug discovery and research. The company's chips help researchers learn how cells interact with their environments by measuring ionic currents (known as ion cell channels); the measurements in turn help scientists create drugs that target those behaviors. Its Sealchip disposable cartridges are used with electrophysiology instruments to measure ion cell channels. The firm has also developed a means for isolating specific cell lines for specific areas of drug research; the technology is being used to develop and market products such as its cardiac liability detection assays. Chinese life sciences company CapitalBio is AVIVA's primary shareholder.
