SHARED VALUES The following shared values guide our work in the way we prioritize our energies and efforts, how we make decisions, and ultimately how we serve our students and each other. SERVICE We seek to understand our students, meet their needs and those of our families and community, and to serve each other.
EXCELLENCE We pursue and nurture the exceptional achievements of our students, teachers, and staff through hard work and growth.
INTEGRITY We earn trust through consistently and accountably following through on our commitments, and by addressing our shortfalls.
RESPECT We welcome diverse ideas and contributions, assume each other’s best intent, and honor each other’s strengths and traditions.
COMPASSION We are mindful of and respond to the thoughts and feelings of others, and are kind, authentic, and self-aware in our interactions.
COLLABORATION We build inclusive teams of students, families, staff, and community partners, and engage each member’s contribution on behalf of our students.
Description Our Schools We serve most of the city of Bellevue, WA and the smaller surrounding communities of Clyde Hill, Medina, Hunts Point, Yarrow Point and Beaux Arts. We also serve portions of Issaquah, Kirkland, Newcastle, Redmond and unincorporated King County.
Our Students We have an incredibly diverse district. 100 languages are spoken in the Bellevue School District, with 40.2% of students speaking a first language other than English.
Our Staff We have a staff of about 2,900 employees, including almost 1,500 teachers. Over 400 Bellevue teachers are National Board-certified, more than any other district in the state. More than 75% of our teachers hold a master’s degree.
The district is led by the Superintendent. Five community members make up the Bellevue School District’s Board of Directors, one from each of the five geographical districts. The board members are elected to their posts by registered voters for terms of four years.
2023 Strategic Plan Goals Affirm and Inspire: Students feel safe, affirmed, and inspired to achieve high levels of social-emotional well-being regardless of background.
Learn and Thrive: Students achieve high levels of academic success and outcomes are not predicted by race or income.
Creators of Their Future World: Students effectively problem solve and lead for positive local and global change by developing global awareness and cultural competency, and learn advanced skills in processing and applying information through the effective use of technology and engineering.
Exceptional Staff: To improve student well-being and academic achievement in our district, we develop a culture that attracts, engages, and retains exceptional educators who are reflective of and responsive to the diversity of Bellevue School District students.
