Mission At CDC, we take an entrepreneurial approach to investment. We think innovatively about ways to deploy our capital, attract and mobilise other investors, and drive transformational impact. Primarily, CDC invests to achieve impact and a financial return which is reinvested into more businesses. We aim to create jobs and accelerate economic prosperity and focus on sectors that will do this; manufacturing, food and agriculture, infrastructure, financial institutions, construction, health and education. CDC works with likeminded ambitious people who are primarily motivated by our mission to deliver impact.
Description Established in 1948, CDC is the UK’s development finance institution with a mission to invest in the private sector to make a lasting difference to people living in Africa and Asia. By investing for development impact, CDC aims to improve lives and help countries build thriving economies that can provide sustainable opportunities for all their citizens. We are 100% owned by the UK Government, and have an equity-financed balance sheet. This allows us to be a patient and flexible investor, using a multitude of different investment instruments as best suits the needs of our investees.
CDC only invests in Africa and South Asia and we focus on sectors with a strong propensity to create jobs, such as infrastructure, financial institutions, manufacturing, food and agriculture, construction and real estate, health and education. CDC has net assets of £5.1bn, with over 1,300 growing businesses in the portfolio. CDC is a growing team of over 380 people and we place immense value on diversity within our organisation. We are expanding our presence in Africa and South Asia with further new offices openings in 2019.
At CDC people make the difference. It's our passion and dedication that drives us forwards. We seek to unlock potential and in doing so we are creative, adaptable and nimble. We pride ourselves in taking on challenges - even when things are difficult.
