Entertainment Properties Trust invests in places to play. The self-administered real estate investment trust (REIT) owns more than 100 movie megaplex theaters and nine theater-anchored entertainment retail centers around the US and Canada. Entertainment Properties also owns other recreational properties, including a ski resort in Ohio and wineries in California. In a more recent twist, the company began to diversify its holdings by acquiring public charter schools. However, movie megaplexes remain the featured attraction at Entertainment Properties. The REIT buys properties from theater operators and leases them back to the original owners. Many of its theaters are leased to AMC Entertainment.
