    I worked at 3VR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There were good employees there when I started. People who wanted the customers to be heard. The smaller size of the company allows teams to communicate in person as needed.

    Cons

The executives did not want to invest time and money into bettering the existing hardware and software, instead spending it on new software and hardware without learning the inherent issues already present.

Because of this, those in the support departments were always playing catch-up, unable to get ahead of issues.

    Advice to Management

Stop emphasizing sales, and instead foster better relationships with existing customers. Cut back on spending by not wasting it on superfluous "company image" tweaks (logo, website, sales show presence).

I have been working at 3VR (Less than a year)

    Pros

Easy going company culture, great location in downtown San Francisco, plenty of internal opportunities to expand your responsibilities.

    Cons

Disorganized leadership selling a commodity product in an unexciting industry. Talented engineers constantly leave for better pay and more exciting work elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Quit chasing after pie-in-the-sky deals and just focus on improving the product. Let your engineering team focus on their work instead of diverting them every time somebody in sales says there's an emergency.

    Pros

    Interesting technology, good customer list

    Cons

indecisive and oddly focused leadership. No one stuck around all that long except for the CEO.

    Advice to Management

Rely on your board for guidance, relationships and help with decision-making

    I worked at 3VR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Pay is above average
    - Great location in SOMA
    - The technology is interesting and has room to grow
    - Some great talent in engineering, sales and marketing
    - Despite the company's age, still a start-up feel

    Cons

    - There is absolutely no semblance of executive leadership - or any leadership at all, for that matter.
    - Despite being an office of less than 50 people at any given day, in a relatively small space, you will feel disconnected, especially from the e-staff.

    Advice to Management

Fire your CEO and breathe new life into this company; that guy has no vision and during my tenure there showed no indication that he cared about his employees or the success of the company. He may have an impressive background, but it's not rooted in the security industry, period. The wrong people from the wrong industries were constantly hired into positions of leadership instead of looking inward at others that could have excelled in those roles, whom ended up just leaving an obviously-sinking ship.

Turnover was constant; the most skilled developers were replaced by outsourced work and average-at-best talent. 3VR had the opportunity to be the, "Google of searchable face rec technology" but instead threw away millions of funding due to a lack of understanding of the security space and its competitors, and then over-extending its resources by fragmenting its software focus and alienating their customer base. It's a shame that the inner circle of board members never stepped up to the plate and gave this company the leadership that it deserved years ago.

I have been working at 3VR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Nice people still work here

    Cons

Management is very disconnected from most of the company and unclear as to what people should be doing. It is very unclear as what priorities should be...this has been happening for the past several years. Leadership does not properly empower its employees.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with your employees -- good or bad. Elevate/promote those who are dedicated and from within

    I worked at 3VR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

3VR has a solid product, but a lack of knowledge amongst the executive team is hindering the company from growing. To many individuals wanting to be heros and not enough combined efforts.
Pay is inline with similar companies, but get ready to put your hours in....
The company could seriously use a shakeup, otherwise they are bound to flop or go up for sale.

    Cons

Marketing is clueless and does not understand the market/industry
Product has many flaws, but due to a lack of resources we were pushed to focus on new releases
    Too many egos

    Advice to Management

Engage in team building events so that that the friction is not clearly visible.

    Pros

3VR has a sexy product and it's fun to work on spy stuff. The work life balance is pretty supportive. The executives are out of the office a lot, and you can kind of work flexible hours.

    Cons

The company isn't growing that fast, and they seem to get in their way a lot. The product has issues, and it affects customer satisfaction pretty heavily. The atmosphere is silly kinds of political.

    Advice to Management

You guys just don't seem to get along that well or make decisions well together. The management style is pretty passive aggressive, and people don't really look up to you as leaders. Knock off the infighting and get your crap together.

    Pros

Great coworkers - a very fun group, really solid people. The company has been very successful, with sustained revenue growth. This has created great opportunities for employees to grow and expand their contributions.

    Cons

3VR is currently (early 2011) in a transition period to becoming a bigger company - maintaining employee alignment and continual process improvement, while keeping some of the best aspects of a small company feel, is critical.

    Advice to Management

3VR management is doing an excellent job of getting the company and each individual organization with the company strategically aligned, which makes this an exciting time for 3VR.
