    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at ABH full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great management; excellent benefits; strong emphasis on work/life balance; casual dress code; generous time off; flexible scheduling; positive workplace culture; active cultural competency committee and community action team;

    Cons

Heavily dependent upon outside funding streams which are subject to change without notice given state/federal budget negotiations and shifting policies.

    Advice to Management

Continue to explore additional ways to further diversify funding streams in order to better ensure sustainability of service provision over time.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at ABH as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The agency focuses on a DBT-centered approach, which I am a huge fan of, and is considered a teaching/learning agency in which interns are encouraged to hone their counseling skills in individual sessions and become actively involved in skills group participation in a supportive role. Interns are also included as team members as a part of the agency's weekly team consultation meetings and are given a lot of opportunity to confer and/or consult with their supervisor(s) and other mental health therapists when they have questions or need assistance in any way. The clinic director is incredibly intelligent, approachable, and completely open to new suggestions that will improve the clinic and overall team cohesion and communication.

    Cons

The only con that comes to mind is that my direct supervisor, who also happens to be the clinic director, is sometimes pressed for time which can, at times, make it somewhat difficult to get one-on-one time with her.

I worked at ABH full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great medical benefits and 401(k) matching.

Companies does what it can to keep employees happy such as donuts on working holidays, holiday party, health fair, breakfast with CEO for new employees.

    Cons

No room to grow, pay is decent to less than decent, and company won't write any recommendation for its employees.

Also, most positions are grant funded which could mean no job security depending on which program you work in

    Advice to Management

Not sure what the managers could do differently. Maybe more paid holidays. And more dress down days - most people just sit at their cubicle all day.

    Advice to Management

    Define supervisor boundaries and responsibilities.

I have been working at ABH full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Like the job, good benefits, flexible hours, lots of good things could get noticed but it doesn't.

    Cons

You are a nobody if you're not management. Don't get paid enough. Managers are gold everyone is nothing.

    Advice to Management

Realize everyone counts, acknowledge anniversaries and staff loyalty, and managers are not are perfect as they seem, the people below them need to feel they exist, it's called MORALE.

    Pros

The management team is very focused on the employee's well being. The office space is better than most. The opportunities to learn and advanced are present if you are willing to make the effort.

    Cons

There is little opportunity for advancement just beacuse of the structure. Since the work is generaly grant funded there are moments of insecurity but the company usually has new business always coming in.

    Advice to Management

Management may be too flexible with breaking rules which leads staff to believe there are "favorites." Managment needs to become more innovative and progressive in their style.

"Decent company mentality, but company is small and grant-funded so stability is non-existent"

    Pros

Overall, the company does care about its employees and strives for a decent culture. A lot of the employees are friendly, educated and hard-working, and get along with each other. The office is nice and fairly up to date, and located in a well-maintained professional building.

    Cons

Although the company may try to treat its employees in a decent manner, their funding makes it nearly impossible for them to do so. The company is non-profit and funded through state and federal grants, which are being cut left and right. Job stability is non-existent. Opportunities for advancement are extremely limited, and preferential treatment is given to particular "favorite" employees. Benefits have been slashed each year I have been here, as well as salary freezes. Significant layoffs have occurred. These economic times are hitting ABH hard, and although no company is solid as a rock in today's climate, ABH is extremely unstable and volatile right now.

    Advice to Management

ABH is management-heavy. There are more managers than employees that are managed, and if ABH is looking to save money (and who isn't nowadays?) then they need to cut some of the money.

    Cons
