AVL has some of the most brilliant engineers in the world. They also provide a really nice work environment with access to amazing technology and nice offices. I would highly recommend working there, as they are very professional, pay well, and have great benefits.

    Cons

I wouldn't say there are many cons working there.

I have been working at AVL full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Professional environment with a great work life balance. You will be surrounded by many intelligent and hard working individuals that make coming to work exciting. Not too large of a company that you are still heard but large enough that there is structure and opportunities. I have been here for almost 3 years and plan to be here for many more to come.

    Cons

I honestly do not have anything negative to say. It's a company, so there are things that will always come up but can confidently and truthfully say I think AVL has the best of all words - pay, challenge, work-life balance, opportunity and they are not going anywhere anytime soon.

    I worked at AVL full-time

    Pros

Many of the colleagues there are excellent professionals. The benefits are ok.

    Cons

It is very difficult to trust anyone there. Internal "competition" is intentionally created as a tool to encourage "innovation". My experience was that this created an environment that stifled collaboration because everyone was an information hoarder. After all, why would you help the people you are competing against, even if they work a few cubes away?

    Advice to Management

Stop treating people like replaceable cogs.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. 2% Raise every year is nice, however other form of compensation increase need to be considered.

I worked at AVL full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great exposure to a vast array of different technologies, testing methods and test cell related hardware. Knowledge gained at AVL can be a nice point on a resume when applying/interviewing with other employers that use AVL hardware or software.

    Cons

Management can be very disconnected at times. HR department is less than professional and has a very college sorority mentality. Structure and processes are always changing.
Limited chances for advancement. Once you are in a roll and are proficient in that roll, people tend to be pigeon holed and receive very few incentives for staying. Field service personnel can expect to be exploited to the fullest extent. Travel can reach or even exceed 90%

    - Chance to work with quite experienced engineers

    Cons

    - Too much Internal Politics
    - Too much competition between departments
    - According to position, travelling could be too much

    Advice to Management

    - Control deparments much better, they are clashing to each other, there isn't enough cooperation
