    I worked at AVL full-time

    Pros

Many of the colleagues there are excellent professionals. The benefits are ok.

    Cons

It is very difficult to trust anyone there. Internal "competition" is intentionally created as a tool to encourage "innovation". My experience was that this created an environment that stifled collaboration because everyone was an information hoarder. After all, why would you help the people you are competing against, even if they work a few cubes away?

    Advice to Management

Stop treating people like replaceable cogs.

I worked at AVL full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great exposure to a vast array of different technologies, testing methods and test cell related hardware. Knowledge gained at AVL can be a nice point on a resume when applying/interviewing with other employers that use AVL hardware or software.

    Cons

Management can be very disconnected at times. HR department is less than professional and has a very college sorority mentality. Structure and processes are always changing.
Limited chances for advancement. Once you are in a roll and are proficient in that roll, people tend to be pigeon holed and receive very few incentives for staying. Field service personnel can expect to be exploited to the fullest extent. Travel can reach or even exceed 90%

    Excellent work life balance

    Cons

Compensation is no where near Industry standards

Service bond exists if you wish to go abroad. And they will send you and make you sign it.

HR and higher management are suckups

They will make you feel inferior to your foreign colleagues.

    Managerial style is way outdated

    Advice to Management

    HR grow a pair

Management: Have a vision and culture, otherwise you will be extinct.
