Professional Review and Concern Regarding Employee Conduct at Ackermans I would like to formally raise serious concerns regarding the conduct of an employee currently working at the Ackermans store located at President Hyper in Vereeniging. It has come to light that this employee has allegedly submitted fraudulent sick notes. Such conduct constitutes dishonesty and fraud, which are considered serious offences in any workplace, particularly within the retail sector where integrity and trust are fundamental. What is most concerning is that, despite the matter reportedly being brought to management’s attention, the employee remains actively employed without any visible corrective action. This situation raises significant concerns about accountability and internal controls within the store. More importantly, it creates unease among customers, as employees in retail environments often have access to sensitive personal information, including identity numbers, contact details, and residential addresses. If an individual is willing to commit fraud against their employer, it is reasonable for customers to question whether their personal information is adequately protected. From a legal standpoint in South Africa, the submission of a fraudulent medical certificate is regarded as misconduct involving dishonesty. Labour law experts confirm that falsifying or knowingly submitting fake sick notes amounts to fraud and can constitute a fair and valid reason for dismissal. � Furthermore, such actions undermine the trust relationship between employer and employee, which is a key principle in employment law. Where dishonesty is proven, dismissal is widely recognised as an appropriate sanction under South African labour law. In light of the above, I strongly urge management to address this matter with the seriousness it deserves. Customers must be assured that their personal information is handled by trustworthy individuals and that any form of fraudulent behaviour is dealt with decisively and transparently. Failure to act not only risks reputational damage but may also erode customer confidence in the brand and its commitment to ethical standards.
