I worked at Actiontec (More than a year)

    Pros

A few good people are trying very hard.

    Cons

Lots of cut-throat politics and dirtiness the closer to the top you look. Product quality is not a consideration. A slowly sinking ship.

    Advice to Management

Find a growing business to expand into. Invest in some leadership from outside the company and let them try to grow the business.

I worked at Actiontec full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Actiontec gives its trust and allows people to own their roles, there is no micromanagement at this firm. Employees are responsible for their own success and allowed to bring in new technologies and ideas, learning and developing at their own pace. We were allowed to work remotely in bad weather, during sickness, etc. and keep a healthy work/life balance.

    Cons

Communication is difficult - aside from geographic and language barriers, it is difficult to find who has the information you need to complete a task, each department handling things in a slightly different way, with no overarching organization. Interdepartmental communication can be difficult, making it feel like there is no singularity in the organization's success, but rather each department is out for itself.

    Advice to Management

Standardize protocols across the organization, increase accessibility to information, work on interdepartmental teamwork and communication, a top-down approach to the overall success of the organization, rather than the current state of finger-pointing of who did what wrong.

I worked at Actiontec full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great ideas; Friendly outward appearance.

    Cons

    Very disorganized; branch offices operate in a manner inconsistent with the company's publicly expressed values; very bold, dishonest, and questionable HR; political; does not appear to want to retain talent; dishonest management; hostile work environment at central branch office; remarkably hostile Executives;

    Advice to Management

HR needs to do a better job of investigating employee reports --impartially-- and following up with those reports. For instance, it's not enough to have a closed door/confidential meeting with the manager of an employee who reports unjustified aggression and hostility from an Executive, and have that manager take care of it from there with no follow-up from HR. It's always best to follow through with your work to ensure that correct and appropriate, proportionate action is taken.

Certain Executives need to learn how to speak to employees with respect and dignity, and develop the strength and honor to accept responsibility for their mistakes, and apologize on their own accord without asking the employee if an apology is desired.

It is unwise to retaliate against employees who report wrong-doing.
