I worked at Acuitus as a contractor

    Pros

You get a hands-on opportunity to learn on the job about core SysAdmin concepts through an AI tutor.
You have an opportunity to interact with a group of smart individuals.

    Cons

Bureaucratic - restricted access for testers and strict time sheets

    Advice to Management

    N/A

    I worked at Acuitus full-time

    Pros

I concur with other reviews that it is in fact working on interesting problems and do have great ideas - very bad management and implementation.

    Cons

Agree with other reviews that senior management is severely flawed. Do not have any managerial experience, training, and background. Agree with other reviews that they clearly do not like internal criticism and reflection and have a very arrogant and condescending attitude toward people that work beneath them. Not at all receptive to feedback, no clear way to provide advice to the management. Very dictatorial and lacking of a feedback loop. Low IT pay commensurate with competition and overall market value. I would definitely concur that you should definitely talk to others prior to working here. Work life balance is a major issue.

    Advice to Management

Better top down communication; better company culture. Better mechanism for providing constructive criticism.

    Approves of CEO

I worked at Acuitus as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Top-notch staff with high-level of knowledge. Committed to excellence and growth. Relaxed atmosphere.

    Cons

No major concerns; the company is growing and expanding well.

    Advice to Management

For your future interns/students, allow some time for them to interact with the actual engineers/experts of the program.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Acuitus as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Acuitus is working on a very interesting problem, and has some really great ideas.

    Cons

Senior management intrudes deeply into individual contributor work. For example, the CEO decided that he and his wife were expert math tutors, and would do most of the tutoring themselves. When the students did poorly, management cancelled the post-test.

Needless to say, this pretty much killed any possibility of internal criticism and reflection.

    Advice to Management

You can be a CEO or individual contributor, but not both.

    I worked at Acuitus full-time

    Pros

Content developers are very smart, experienced, and passionate. Some world class developers. The interactive nature of the product is by far better than other learning products. Doing interesting research and analysis into the cognitive science, information retention, and reinforcement.

    Cons

There are serious issues with management trust, micro-management, and control. Sometimes senior software engineers were asked to build custom server hardware configs. Lots of last minute new features and design changes. Talk to a few previous employees before considering positions here.

I worked at Acuitus full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A small-team work environment. You feel like you're working towards a greater goal.
If you achieve, you are given greater responsibility. Compensation is top-notch.

    Cons

    Very strict about timesheets.
Everyone works very hard, and work-life balance is a bit of an issue.
Communication is not always clear. I didn't always know what I should be working on.

    Advice to Management

Be a little more receptive to feedback, there isn't a clear way for employees to provide advice to the management. This can lead to built up frustration.

    Pros

    - Snacks: They provide testers with a snack basket and free Colas
    - Learn on the job: Your job as a tester is to "test out" an IT course, so you are basically paid to learn about IT. This can be very useful.

    Cons

    - Mobility: They treat the company like some kind of a top-secret operation, so testers can't walk around in the building.

    Advice to Management

No advice: You guys are doing your job well. But perhaps keep some of the testers who perform well on as full-time testers
