A Disheartening Downward Spiral Post-Acquisition

Business Outlook

Pros

Some genuinely talented colleagues. Some good technologies.

Cons

Post-Acquisition Chaos: Since the merger with [Other Company], our once efficient product has been lost in a complex and wasteful platform. Lack of Clarity and Planning: Strategic direction is muddled and inconsistent, leading to decreased morale. Slow Development Times: The new platform's complexity has drastically slowed down our development process. Poor Kanban Management: What used to be an efficient system is now plagued with bottlenecks and delays. CTO's Lack of Business Focus: There's an excessive emphasis on over-engineering suitable for a company much larger than ours. This disconnect leads to inefficiencies and disillusionment. Nepotism in Leadership: A clear inner circle operates on their own motivations, often disconnected from actual business needs. Ineffective New Processes: New processes introduced by the CTO were tried but never improved upon based on team feedback. Instead, more meaningless steps were added, creating a disconnect between design and application. Ignored Feedback: There's no effective mechanism for feedback. When given, it's often ignored or bogged down by additional processes. Frustration and Negativity: Team members are worn down, leading to an environment of bitterness and a sense of futility.

Pros

Free breakfast on some days if you got in early enough.

Cons

The company has been on a slow decline for years (not from great heights to start with). Applearn have never successfully been able to create a culture or environment worth staying for and turns over around 60% of the staff year on year. Employees are treated appallingly by senior managers, who run the place like bullies in a playground. A truly soulless, depressing place in which the phrase 'you could hear a pin drop on the other side of the room' is a daily reality. Sad. Maybe too late now but managed properly the company had great potential with an interesting product.

I am sorry your experience has not been positive. We do work hard on creating a culture where all of our people can excel and demonstrate their skills, one which is inclusive and one which facilitates team work I believe we have a great team spirit, demonstrated by the camaraderie and bond we have.

Awful place, treat staff poorly and running out of money.

Pros

Flexible working and office snacks

Cons

Work people like dogs. CEO is a nutcase that is completely money driven to the point he doesn't care about employee happiness. Many people have left as the company culture has completely changed. Hard work is never acknowledged and you don't see any benefits that are stated in the contract. HR also doesn't know how to keep things confidential.

We have a great selection of benefits for all of our people, including flexible and hybrid working, cycle to work, EV lease, enhanced family leave, health cash plan, paid mental health support, enhanced pension contributions, increasing holiday allowances and share options. All of these are available for anyone to access at all times. Top of our priorities is our employee experience and creating a culture that all of our people can thrive in. Whether this be via L&D opportunities, social events, benefit offerings, industry events or giving back to our communities, we take the lead from our team on what they want to see at AppLearn. As our business evolves, so does our culture and we receive excellent feedback through our externally produced employee engagement surveys.
