I have been working at Arena Solutions full-time

    Pros

There are very many nice people at the company. There is also a strong sense of community at Arena. We celebrate many holidays together with company parties. There is also a great worklife balance.

    Cons

The office doesn't have the easiest access to transportation. If we had a shuttle service to downtown San Francisco that would be a great alternative to driving in traffic.

    Advice to Management

Invest in a shuttle service for your employees that live in San Francisco. There is a lot of good talent that may not consider working in Foster City because of the last of a shuttle service.

I worked at Arena Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice office, friendly people, free snacks, free coffee, and premium tequila shots during the day. Clients are interesting and typically fun to work on implementations.

    Cons

Seventeen year start up with too many funding rounds and still in the red. Hard place to be in between other PLM but players.

    Advice to Management

    Action taken they finally sold.

I worked at Arena Solutions full-time

    Pros

The one good thing about Arena is the people. There are many very friendly people here, they just aren't at the top.

    Cons

Arena presents themselves as a tech startup, but more and more they feel like the opposite: an old, big company, conservative, cautious, and pedantic. They are very stuck in their ways, and it is almost impossible to change anything. After almost 20 years in business, the odds of an IPO seem low.

The atmosphere is quiet and dull, and mildly oppressive. It feels more like an investment bank than a software company. You will be required to digitally sign 30 documents, swearing that you read and understand the contents. They are full of boilerplate, meaningless and obscure, and many are unrelated to your actual job or department.

Despite being a saas software company, engineering is not central here, nor does it get much respect. Arena is very clearly run by suits who expect to get their way 100% of the time. While they brag of a flat management model, in reality, upper management's reaction to polite feedback ranges from indifferent to hostile. When you are here, your job is to obey orders, not question them. It is clear that you are viewed as a replaceable part, not a partner. Your feedback on company policy is never solicited. The CEO is not approachable, and speaks to the lower employees about once a year.

There is a strict set of rules for employees. Years ago the excessive rules were mostly ignored, but recently enforcement has been stepped up. During a heat wave, company leadership decided to crack down on the evils of short pants. Everyone in engineering must wear long pants at all times, and closed shoes. Dress codes are not the way to retain top talent in the Bay Area, which is why top talent tends to move on from Arena.

The benefits are on the low end. There is no 401k match. Forget about bonuses, or any substantial recognition for hard work. There are a few minor perks, like Costco snacks, but otherwise Arena is miserly. It's very difficult to get any extras or changes. Sick days come out of your vacation time.

    Advice to Management

Management is not interested in advice.

I have been working at Arena Solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I can comfortably say this is the best place I have worked. The atmosphere and people are wonderful, they promote a work/life balance, and it's a fun place that I genuinely enjoy coming into every day.

    Cons

None so far. Company is transparent in goals and expectations. You are allowed a certain amount of leeway to do things your own way within the company's broader overall goals.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. The management team is experienced and capable of leading a great group of people.

I have been working at Arena Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

+ People and culture are awesome
    + Nice technical challenges
    + Good management
    + Good work life balance

    Cons

    Not really cons, just comments:
+ Some legacy software still exists and efforts to migrate it are being done. It'll be great once that is complete.
+ The Company builds products for the PLM industry, which sometimes moves a bit slower than other industries. This is good in that creates a need for steady evolution but not in a skyrocket speed as in other faster paced industries.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

I have been working at Arena Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've worked at quite a few companies in the Bay Area and Arena stands out for its friendliness, teamwork, and approachability of senior management. Everybody is genuinely on the same page helping each other out, and you can see the results in the high growth the company is seeing. Craig has set a terrific culture and its a pleasure to come to work every day!

    Cons

Open office environment can be distracting but that would only be a con for the easily distractible.

    Advice to Management

The challenge will be to keep the work/life balance and friendly culture while scaling and driving accountability as the company continues to grow - I believe this management team is up to the task.

    Pros

Everything I expected plus some. A great dedicated team that is a passionate about winning in their space, while advocating a work/life balance for their employees.

    Cons

None to speak of. The company is doing all of the right things.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up. Culture is a fragile thing, but you have a winning culture. Continue to protect it.
