    I have been working at Asset Performance Networks full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    AP-Networks is a small, privately owned, tight-knit organization that is an excellent place to work. I know this is cliche, but it really does feel like family, and the company leadership treats people as respected, valued individuals and not just tools to be used to generate revenue.

    Some of the pros of a consulting job at AP-Networks are:
    -the ability to learn about and make contacts in companies across the entire petro-chemical industry;
    -the opportunity to travel all of the US and the world;
    -the opportunity to improve client relationship management skills;
    -the opportunity to work on peer-to-peer and upward leadership skills; and
    -working in an organization that has a very flat structure, which cuts down on bureaucracy.

    Cons

    Some cons at working at AP-Networks:
    -travel and the free-form nature of consulting work, while exciting, can lead to burn-out if you don't take care of yourself;
    -it can be difficult to reach consensus during internal decision making because the company is a flat organization that spans across 3 countries; and
    -being a small company, AP-Networks does not always have the resources to big chances, making it a conservative organization slow to branch away from well-trodden paths.

    Advice to Management

    -Continue to find ways to drive integration between all of the offices
    -Continue to explicitly define what a consultant career path looks like

    Great work hours. Nice office bldg. Snacks and sodas provided for employees.

    Cons

    Software side Managers are Micro-managers. No ability to think for yourself. Does not promote team work. Dead-end job. No promotions. Same job for years with no ability to move around or move up. Some of the management should not be in their positions.

    Advice to Management

    Review policies and procedures on the software side of the business. Make sure you have the right people in the right jobs.

    Pros

    Great work/life/balance, flexible schedule, interesting work, travel to some interesting places, great people!

    Cons

    Consultant position can be a career dead-end, you aren't compensated what they're billing you for, management takes credit for other's new business, people are almost never promoted, unclear personal growth track. This is where you want to be if you have a family and don't mind not moving up

    Advice to Management

    Invest in your people, provide opportunities for growth and development, flat structure ensures that growth will almost never happen
