      Strong team effort undermined by poor leadership and stress

      Pros

      The majority of the team is hard working and great to work with. They still have a lot of really strong performers in many departments, and if they work hard, they could bring back the great culture they used to have before the M&A. Fully remote.

      Cons

      Where to begin - things went downhill when the three companies became Athos Commerce. Leadership is a mess under the new CEO, who is like a caricature of an awful CEO. People flocked out the door in droves after the mergers and acquisition, and he laid off several others. The people who were left felt directionless and confused. All M&As are challenging but this felt like they took 3 great companies and imploded them. Also the over-emphasis on metrics for the PE firm created a super stressful environment where teams turned against each other to capture credit.

      Supportive environment turned stagnant after acquisition

      Pros

      It was a great place to work, and I worked directly with the co-founders and my reporting director, who were always supportive. This was my experience during the first two years I worked with the company, when it was still Intelligent Reach. Many of the employees had been with the organisation since its founding days — for around five years plus overall.

      Cons

      Things changed after the company was acquired by Athos Commerce, backed by PSG. The original co-founders and management team left, and many employees who had been with the organisation for nearly five years experienced little to no career growth and were indirectly encouraged to leave. Career progression had almost come to a standstill, with promotions often limited to title changes rather than meaningful salary increases, despite employees consistently meeting and exceeding their goals. Athos Commerce, backed by PSG, strongly believed in outsourcing and aimed to move much of the workforce to India as a cost-cutting measure. While I understand the financial reasoning behind this approach, replacing long-serving employees instead of addressing the underlying issues was not necessarily the right solution.
