I have been working at BNBuilders full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very open and encouraging working environment, if you have an idea or vision for improvement no-one will stop you from running with it and making a change. Great people, feels like going to work with friends every day.

    Cons

Management could be more connected to the people. Lots of team building and social events, but minimal management attendance and engagement.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to over communicate how much you appreciate your people, I know you view them as the #1 asset.

I have been working at BNBuilders full-time

    Pros

Successful business, decent benefits, laid back environment

    Cons

Despite career development "program", good luck elevating yourself. Company is divided into the haves and have nots.

    Advice to Management

Dear Visionaries, stick to what you do best instead of micromanaging every aspect of the business. Use your heads, not your egos. Empower others.

    Pros

The office environment was relaxed and the people were awesome.

    Cons

The lack of structure makes it difficult to hold people accountable for their actions which shows favoritism. Lack of strong management leads to good employees getting fired. This is not a good environment to learn and grow into your position.

    Advice to Management

Hold your managers accountable for their actions.

    Pros

Very good group of people working their and they take really good care of their employees. Not afraid to take on a challenge and always striving to be better by having all sorts of seminars.

    Cons

Usually work more than 40 hours a week.

    Advice to Management

Plan more check in meeting to see how people are doing.

I worked at BNBuilders full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent perks to working hard, quarterly safety bonus, nice holiday bonus, quick to offer more responsibility. Fun sports teams to play on, awesome company gatherings, young, energetic employees.
Principals and upper management knew my name and about my plans.

    Cons

Long hours worked as a result of understaffing on some projects.
Tended to get pigeon-holed on certain type of project.
Rarely got acknowledgement of job well done or effort to tackle large tasks.
Tend to play favorites with promotions of certain people, while others get overlooked.

    Advice to Management

Make an effort to diversify projects that employees work on.

I worked at BNBuilders full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A small to medium sized firm with project sizing anywhere from $100K to $500M. An environment that provides exceptional opportunity for career development and Subcontractor / Client / Architect relations. Everyone wants to do work with BNB. Learning and collaboration highly encouraged, strong ethics and fundamental belief in positive morals is a must. Flexible company, forward thinking and progressive.

    Cons

Company is getting larger every day which will tend to limit opportunities for new hires as the existing employees will have a better shot at advancement. Work hours can often exceed 60-70 hrs a week and the day also starts very early (as it is construction).

    Advice to Management

Allow more avenues for creative thinking and intra-department or intra-project innovation to happen to continue stimulation of creative thought amongst employees.

    Pros

They have some very talented and passionate people that are leading efforts to grow and build in a variety of market segments. Good in-house trainings and career development opportunities.

    Cons

They run pretty lean on project staffing to the border of employee burnout. PTO/Holidays could be better (lots of places choose to close down between Christmas and New Year's, but they don't. ).

I have been working at BNBuilders full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

BNB is a young, nimble, energetic, fast growing company that is not afraid to get scrappy and try new things, enter new markets, and chase high profile clients. A very entrepreneurial atmosphere that fosters career growth and autonomy, while offering the support of strong industry veterans and a solid financial backing with private ownership.

Salary and benefits are on par with competitors, but the soft perks are what sets BNB apart. All levels of employees are treated as assets, and generous perks such as a well stocked snack room, wine room, and a beer keg (near the estimating department - of course), as well as exciting and non-traditional company functions such as an annual Cinco de Mayo party make it a fun place to work.

BNB also enjoys a very comprehensive list of repeat corporate clients. They have a strong biotech resume, and recent strong growth in the GC/CM marking. While a majority of the work is less than $10 million, they are landing larger contracts based on their success over the last decade. The combination of the fun "hipster" atmosphere, a good backlog, and high profile clientele has resulted in BNB attracting some top notch talent from other GC's in town.

    Cons

Location - Expect 15-30 minutes to navigate the Mercer/Denny mess to access I-5 in the evening. The office is not a quick commute to anywhere, and is a 15 minute walk from regional transit hubs downtown (there is municipal bus service to the facility).

I would not recommend this company if you like a lot of policies and procedures, or need a lot of direction - they hire people for their talents, and expect them to deliver and work autonomously (this could be a plus or minus depending on your personality type). If "no rules" makes you cringe, this is not the place for you (and yes - there are still some rules).

A lot of the work is smaller in nature, but interesting none-the-less. If you are looking to build monumental projects, I'd give BNB a few more years . . . they'll get there!

    Advice to Management

Don't let the break-neck rate of growth change the culture!

Consider a different location soon - The South Lake Union area is only going to get more choked up with current development.
