    I worked at Benco full-time

    Pros

Working for a Residential provider means that you will be making a difference in someone's life for the better everyday-even if it feels like you are just doing the regular duties of keeping a house. The people you work with are amazing! A majority of the staff that work at Benco are long term employees. They really care about the work they are doing and the impact it will have on the people they are supporting. Benco pays an above competitive wage. This is often disputed by the staff, but I would encourage them to do some homework! A lot of the other providers in Linn and Benton county do not pay at the same rate or raise schedule.

    Cons

There is a disconnect between the administrators and the direct care staff. The Board of Directors does not have a realistic view of the business, the programs or the people being supported. They rely solely on what the Executive Director tells them. They could do a better job making decisions about the company if they were more involved and invested in their position. Mary Kay Gleicher is listed as the CEO. She was the President of the Board for years and was a wonderful lad, but she passed away about 6 years ago.

I worked at Benco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The clients are amazing to work for, truly rewarding! Staffing ratios were great.

    Cons

Upper management makes decisions and decisions before consulting with the people it would impact. Overworked

    Advice to Management

Consult clients and staff before implementation.

I have been working at Benco part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Work is rewarding - Great coworkers and clients - Part-time position worked great with my school schedule - Always opportunities to pick up additional hours if desired

    Cons

    - Many positions require you to work nights and weekends - High turn over can result in management asking you to work additional hours to fill open shifts - Many programs require you to be on call for a full week once every month to two months.

    Advice to Management

Management is excellent. A friendly and supportive group that genuinely care about their clients and employees.

I have been working at Benco full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Learned a lot on the job. Paid training. Great coworkers and friendly people. Many different times of shift. Sleeping overnights at many home with same hourly pay. Long shifts (20 hours) with sleep avaliable. Good vacation and sick time. Many chances to advance slightly. Almost always able to work overtime if desired due to open shifts, and you make time and a half.

    Cons

Long shifts. Feel under supported. Constantly understaffed. The Program Coordinators are required to work overtime every week because they are salaried and they don't make time and a half like direct care staff. I think our PC has worked overtime every week since she was hired (+60 hours some times). A coworker was injured on the job and was declined workers comp. After fighting with a lawyer she was essentially fired from the position. This really was handled poorly.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people and support staff better. Management from the office should come out to the programs and see clients more often.
