I have been working at Boston Proper (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fabulous clothes at a mid to high end price point, with personalized service.

    Cons

Company was a 30 year catalog company, purchased by Chicos FAS, They made the decision to close all stores by December 2015, sell the company and return to being a catalog only business again, so we lost our jobs.

    Boston Proper Response

Feb 13, 2017 – Brand Marketing Communications & PR Manager

The layoffs were unfortunate, but Chico's offered career services during the transition and put priority on filling new positions within the other three brands with employees affected by the layoffs ... More

    Pros

Fun co-workers. Great discount on clothes every quarter.

    Cons

Toxic management environment. I was offered a promotion to work as Lead Stylist at another store. The DM, the store manager, and assistant manager loved me! They loved my sales record! But because my manager didn't give her approval (which apparently is necessary), I didn't get the job. And her reasons weren't valid. Glad I quit. Funny too, they ran out of business shortly after I left. Talk about karma.

    Advice to Management

Better hiring practices. Don't hire people who clearly aren't qualified, have no integrity, and are incompetent at doing their job.

    Pros

Nice Managers. Was an very well designed store to work within. If you enjoy their clothes you would enjoy working for them

    Cons

Knew the company would be closing quickly based on how management was acting. clothing were cheaply made, so customers would complain constantly.

    Advice to Management

I agree with Boston Proper shutting down the store front. It was a good idea to close before they would lose money

I worked at Boston Proper full-time

    Pros

Discounts, flexible hours, clean & new office, fun industry

    Cons

    Horrible leaders in every department

5+ years before raise or promotion while receiving stellar reviews

Company rewards loyalty not performance so if you have been there for a long time quite about raises and not really contributing you will get a pay off in the end vs. the person that comes in contributing to the bottom line and stays 3-5 years

Company frowns upon change and new ideas

    Devil Wears Prada like atmosphere

Certain departments get budget and necessities first due to leader favoritism

Have been bought and sold 2 times over the past 5 years maybe it will get better now

Underpays severally across all departments if you don't demand more you won't get it

Leaders look and behave unhealthy - concerning

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Boston Proper full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Passionate close-knit team, hard working, don't micromanage but expects the best, great vibe

    Cons

A little scattered in direction, working hard to get back on track but hindered by some strong personalities, also for the ratings below, it depends who you ask. The career opportunities and division of labor could be better balanced

    Advice to Management

Don't cut your staff when they're already working 12 hour days, especially don't do it then go on vacation, find another way to cut the budget-like limiting expensive "shopping" trips.

I have been working at Boston Proper full-time

    Pros

Generous discount on the merchandise, great support from other boutiques and corporate since it's new to brick and mortar, owned by Chico's so benefits fit my salary, small staff so it feels like a close-knit family rather than employees.

    Cons

A lot of work is required from the assistant manager. Pay compensation is significantly lower that the average pay for retail management. No career advancements available.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees through pay compensation and develop a better bonus structure to support employees of the entire team.
