    I worked at COGECO full-time

    Pros

-Knowledge gained through all the technologies we supported was excellent.
-Made some amazing friendships with great people.
    -Pay was competitive
    - Good benefits

    Cons

-Battling through inefficient processes. Difficult to bring change when the company is so big.
-Culture at times was too "old school" cowboy mentality. "This is how we always did things. Why change"?
-Certain positions were staffed by people clearly under qualified for their roles. This affected

    Advice to Management

    -Encourage & foster culture change
-Implement a true ITSM operation model
-Cut the fat. Let under performing and under qualified people go.
-Hire passionate and qualified people but, and this is important, listen to their ideas and let them implement a successful ITSM program.

I worked at COGECO full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There was NO work. For 99 percent of the time I did nothing -- really is this how Cogeco likes to waste its money?

    Cons

They had a horrible and disfunctional database for their 'business' customers. It was like they could care less.

    Advice to Management

Why waste so much money on paying someone to do nothing for 7.5 hours a day? Do you people even have a brain? Is this why Cogeco is so expensive?

I worked at COGECO (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good opportunities for internal advancement, reasonable pay for some positions, excellent benefits

    Cons

Absolutely toxic workplace. Sexual harassment, shouting, and crying are not unusual management techniques. Management stays forever because they would be laughed out of any other job.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the poisonous director and all his cronies. Clean house.

No room for advancement, upper management doesnt like change, and no room to grow your career.

    Advice to Management

Promote and build up your employees to be leaders, not just grinders.

I have been working at COGECO part-time

    Pros

    Discounted telecommunication services
    Friendly staff
    Supportive supervisor
    Not a difficult job
    Benefits
    Enrolment in the share program
    Lots of employee appreciation celebrations

    Cons

    Very different for internal movement
    Call centre job
When I was in sales difficult they were focused on the numbers, couldn't take a pee break for more than 4 minutes without getting a call from RTRC
Had to schedule your pee breaks based on the scheduled breaks
Getting full time hours but part time benefits
Getting pay less while taking on multiple roles

    Advice to Management

To appreciate your employees more because that little added extra attention makes the difference between who will stay vs who will leave

I worked at COGECO full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

35h/week; adequate benefits; most people in non-managerial roles are great; fun Christmas party; free coffee; close to public transportation.

    Cons

Job insecurity; untrustworthy HR, managers and directors; attempts to break work contracts by verbally demanding you perform tasks of a completely different profession; requires you to set a list of goals but ignores your accomplishments; no career advancement opportunities, lots of politics and silos, not a good place to learn and use newer technologies, high employee turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Replace HR leadership as well as the directors and managers that have negative leadership skills and attempt to coerce employees into different roles than what their contract stipulates. Stay ethical and professional. Recognize your employees' accomplishments.

In some cases still a lot of red tape that can make it challenging to get things done.

    I worked at COGECO full-time

    Pros

Overall the company is still somewhat supportive of work life balance (in theory)
Still some great people who care and support each other (but those who are wise are leaving)

    Cons

Leadership is entirely focused on politics and who gets the next promotion.
Very toxic environment at management level. Trust no one.
Hemorrhaging customers in a dying market and no clear vision on how to adapt to the new reality.
Decisions are taken to find ways to cut costs and squeeze every penny from customers instead of trying to develop a better customer experience. Not a sustainable approach nor motivating for employees.
The customer friendly reputation is being destroyed in a quest for every last dollar.

    Advice to Management

Take a step back from the numbers and spend some honest, quality time building a vision to see Cogeco through this new market reality where people are cutting the cord and the cables.
Clean up the leaders who seek only to get promoted rather than lead.
