If you want experiences...

Pros

You get a lot of chances to try new things, even if you don’t have prior experience. If you want to explore marketing, social media, content creation, design, etc, you’ll likely get the opportunity. It’s a good place to learn by doing and grow beyond your job description.

Cons

Since you’re often trying something new, there isn’t always a mentor or clear guidance. You need to be pretty self-motivated and comfortable figuring things out on your own. (which can be tiring if the art project you are teaching is difficult)

Pros

Relatively systematic approach to art education, nowhere close to professional. I mean I’ve seen worse.

Cons

1. The management treat K12, especially 4-6 yrs old class like a circus show. Expect absurdly exhausting class projects that have absolutely unnecessary complex processes that don’t teach kids anything about art at all. 2. Lots of free off-hour volunteering work is expected. If you don’t, you are a not growing and contributing. If you need visa, need work experience fresh out of school, expect to be treated as slave. They know you are desperate. I have seen multiple breakdowns of my colleagues but sadly there is nothing they can do. 3. No say in curriculum, they will hold meetings and act like they take advice, but it’s just so they can say we did this, and no change at all. If you can’t pull the projects, it’s bc you are incapable and immature and never the ridiculous curriculum’s fault. 4. You will come in thinking things will get better, but everyone burns out and lost hope 1-2 yrs and leave. And they love that bc they can then find the next cheap labor to exploit. 5. Sexism. Male teachers are hired at senior levels to begin with, get paid more bc of level and never assigned to younger crazier classes. While female teachers “have to” begin with 4-6 yr classes, are viewed as less of art professionals and more like day care labor. So in a word, if you really need this experience on your resume, you can do this for 1-2 years and leave. If you have a choice, don’t come.
