I worked at Calian full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Values experience of an individual as much as educational credentials. Salary was good. Working conditions were good. Expectations were clear. Team work with other team members was great.

    Cons

Lack of job security from being a sub-contractor. You are employed as long as there is a need, then you are thanked for your services. That is to be expected, so not a real con.

    Advice to Management

Management has been great. Keep it up.

    Cons

personal service contracts can be used for toilet paper. Found this out by showing it to retired supreme court justice. He said it's fraud.

I worked at Calian full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working hours were very flexible. Taking unpaid leave was flexible. Pay was average. Teammates were outstanding and working environment was overall positive. A lot of opportunity for over time.

    Cons

Calian offers the minimum legal requirements. Regardless of how long you had been with the company Calian offered two weeks vacation with no sick leave. No health benefits were provided but you have the option to buy benefits. If you are laid off severance packages are given at the provincial minimum (after 5 years of service you are eligible for a severance package).

    Advice to Management

Offer more than the minimum requirements such as any sick days or health benefits. Negotiate a reduced gym membership. An official arrangement where you could work extra hours and take one friday a month off would also help.

I worked at Calian full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They embed some of their contractors with some very interesting clients. Where I worked, the client treated us as part of the team. I appreciated working fixed hours and not having to worry about bringing work home.

    Cons

Do not expect Calian to invest in your professional development or in your advancement. The company's interest is driven by profit margin and shareholder happiness. You will be in a fixed role for the duration of your contract. Do not expect Calian to reward initiative. The client probably will before Calian ever does.

    Advice to Management

Start investing in your employees to improve their capacity for future contract bids. If you want to move forward, you have to actually become "thought leaders" by action. It's more than just buzz words.
