I have been working at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield full-time (More than 10 years)
Pros
I've worked at CareFirst for 11 years and it has been a place that I eventually would call home. It has allowed me to learn so much and progress in my career in a positive nature. The management staff that I work under has provided opportunities for me to grow and opened up doors for my success. I can't say enough about the benefits as well. I've enjoyed my time with the company and look forward to what the future brings.
Cons
I don't have any Cons to report at this time.
Advice to Management
Continue to look at the organization and always look to make positive changes in the future. Listen to the associate feedback in the annual review survey - its the feedback from the associates that makes the company that much better.

Great Company to work for! We are going through a lot of change, but its good and well needed change. I'm excited on what our new CEO has in store for us and proud to be apart of it.
Cons
Some manual processes within our department (bit outdated)...but we are working on changing this as well.
Salary

Pros
The rank and file who work at CareFirst are hardworking, ethical people.
Cons
Unfortunately, the leadership of CareFirst has recently failed basic tests of honesty while completing its January restructuring efforts.
Employees are by and large people who understand economic realities, and government regulations and industry turmoil have created an uncertain environment where all health care companies are prioritizing cost reductions. Businesses have every right to reduce workforce in an effort to reprioritize their resources.
But for CareFirst to downsize so many employees after assurances were made in "town hall"-style forums by executive leadership that employees at certain levels would be safe in their jobs was a cynical, disrespectful ploy. I like to think that our former CEO is enjoying his retirement, but probably also feeling a bit of shame for the new regime. Someone needs to, for I doubt they are feeling it themselves.
Advice to Management
I have simple advice to give to management: companies that fail to live by their own standards tend to drive away those that find such standards important, and retain those that don't. Find your way again or prepare for voluntary attrition, followed by an even more toxic climate.

I worked at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield full-time (More than 8 years)
Pros
Above industry standard in salaries- spot bonuses and out of turn multiple promotions for the favorites
Cons
One of the most traumatic jobs I've ever had. Experience to hell and back each day. Leadership is tenured and highly corrupt. Brown nosing is the way to succeed. Discrimination and favoritism is rampant.
Advice to Management
Complete overhaul of leadership- especially tenured leadership who have reached where they have by being hostile and in the right places at the right time.
