I have been working at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've worked at CareFirst for 11 years and it has been a place that I eventually would call home. It has allowed me to learn so much and progress in my career in a positive nature. The management staff that I work under has provided opportunities for me to grow and opened up doors for my success. I can't say enough about the benefits as well. I've enjoyed my time with the company and look forward to what the future brings.

    Cons

I don't have any Cons to report at this time.

    Advice to Management

Continue to look at the organization and always look to make positive changes in the future. Listen to the associate feedback in the annual review survey - its the feedback from the associates that makes the company that much better.

I worked at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Love the job, you can work from home, friendly environment

    Cons

supervisors do not go to bat for you even if they think management is doing too much. High turnover in service because hard work is never appreciated. Too many cliques. Very difficult to get a promotion unless you are a part of a clique of unless somebody likes you.

    Advice to Management

Service is horrible. DC office should not be pitt against the Red Run office. Everyone should work together like a well oiled machine. The service reps will work a lot better with less pressure. We are all human we are bound to make errors. The quality grading scale is one sided and does not benefit the service representative.

I worked at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of learning opportunity like every mid size companies when you start.

    Cons

Politics, Vertical management. Poor pay for starters Not enough professional and financial growth for newbies. I was not allowed to move to a different role twice within same Dept.

    Advice to Management

Try to innovate, promote talent and keep updating management and technical skills. Some leaders are in the company for 30 some years and in same department for last 20 years. Go out and test the water yourself to see whats happening in the world.

    Pros

Excellent health benefits and you always feel needed.

    Cons

Policy changes such as assessment tools become effective 6 months retroactively and is not communicated to the floor yet...CD department has some unethical practices at times.

    Advice to Management

Find creative and effective ways to stand up to upper management when it is obvious that a situation is unethical. Continue to support your teams. They do great work and support you.

I have been working at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Over 10 years in. Great place to work, lots of room to grow and advance in your career. Good Health Benefits and excellent paid time off.

    Cons

Working for a health insurance company and having to pay for the cost of having health insurance. Supervisor in my area are not paid enough for the amount of time that is needed to get the job done... not required to work the extra hours however if you don’t then you’ll get behind.

    Advice to Management

Better pay for supervisor would be great. The amount of responsibility we have and handle needs more $$.
