I have been working at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've worked at CareFirst for 11 years and it has been a place that I eventually would call home. It has allowed me to learn so much and progress in my career in a positive nature. The management staff that I work under has provided opportunities for me to grow and opened up doors for my success. I can't say enough about the benefits as well. I've enjoyed my time with the company and look forward to what the future brings.

    Cons

I don't have any Cons to report at this time.

    Advice to Management

Continue to look at the organization and always look to make positive changes in the future. Listen to the associate feedback in the annual review survey - its the feedback from the associates that makes the company that much better.

It’s a not-for-profit, so salaries aren’t quite as good as others in the area. Good benefits, though.

I have been working at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Nice work-life balance
    Meaningful work
Company is committed to the community
Lots of training and professional development opportunities.
    Great salary

    Cons

Lots of layers in management making the process for reviews and approvals challenging which can slow down associate productivity.
Many associates have been in their roles for a long time which can make it difficult to get promotions.
Size of the organization can make communicating effectively challenging.
Culture is very corporate and "politics" play a role in many departments.

    Advice to Management

Modernize your approach to being transparent with customers. We avoid talking about or stating our position on tough issues but being open about these topics could improve our brand perception.

Consider more modern work/life balance practices and benefits:
Parental leave could be better, especially for a health insurance company.
Work from home and flex hours will go a long way in retaining and recruiting talent.
