I have been working at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Mission Driven Company, headed in a positive direction. Lots of fantastic people work here. Plenty of opportunities for growth and development in a rapidly changing industry.

Flexible working arrangements and opportunities for balancing Work/Family life.

Pay is fairly average and the benefits are good (as you might expect with a not for profit health insurer)

    Cons

Like any larger organization, politics and processes can be oppressive if you’re not comfortable or experienced in navigating them.

    Advice to Management

Continue to find ways to draw new ideas, concepts and tactics from the experience and perspective of front line associates and customers, rather than relying exclusively on expert/executive opinion.

    Pros

Can work from home is the only benefit of having this job

    Cons

It is not an 8 hour a day position. Management is only concerned about numbers as this is a production job. The position has the potential to be a great job to have but management isn;t dedicated to fixing problems that exist.

    Advice to Management

Stop dumping on the case managers, think outside the box, stop micr managing and stop the overlapping of duties.

    Pros

Business units were a great place to make your mark; be creative; and get rewarded. The company's salary and benefits were competitive enough. Management, in some areas, was visionary. Most staff actively supported CareFirst's mission..

    Cons

The company's support areas were slow at times to adapt to new market conditions that needing new ways of doing things..

I have been working at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay and decent 401k match and benefits. The company works with veterans and is dedicated to diversity spending. Bonus has been paid the last several years at 90-100% of the goal.

    Cons

Somewhat toxic culture in many departments. The internal organizations are not aligned. Many tenured staff are stuck in their ways and not open to new ideas or change. They could use a revamp of the leadership team as they are not meeting modern expectations of transparency, communication, and work ethic.

    Advice to Management

They need to review their management practices and take some courses on basic leadership. There are high levels of favoritism and their focus is not aligned with corporate goals. Improvements could be made and there is a general lack of motivation because of the way employees are treated.
