I worked at Carleton University part-time

    Pros

good communication between professors and TAs, good experience and good pay for that level of employment

    Cons

Work all comes at the end of the year so you weekly hours are not actually weekly, they all come in a block at the end of term.

    Advice to Management

get feedback on specific profs at the end of term--some profs are not good to their TAs

Best part-time job! Perfect for a student. Manager is incredible and extremely accommodating and flexible. Great office environment! I was sad to graduate and have to move on.

I have been working at Carleton University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    + reasonable autonomy
+ fair pay rate for undergrads
+ nothing better than seeing that "lightbulb" click when a student understands a tricky concept with your help
+ strong union with reasonable dues

    Cons

    - limited hours and placements available
    - grad students are underpaid
    - certain professors and instructors are hit and miss to work with

    Advice to Management

TAs sometimes have more relevant hands on experience with the topics of the course than the instructor does themselves. Paid opportunities for course development would improve course quality and relevance and give us more work.

    Also, pay contract instructors more.
