I have been working at Castlight full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Competitive pay.
    50 - 60 hour weeks.

    Cons

-Bias towards pedigree. Fond of throwing Harvard B School grads at problems that have no idea how to solve, usually making life difficult for subordinante along the way.

-Political. Everything from who gets invited to a meeting, to promotions are political.

-Homogenous. Very few people of color. Lots of talk of diversity, but that really just means women. Even for tech, it feels abnormal.

    Advice to Management

Management isn’t oblivious. This is the culture they covet.

I have been working at Castlight full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The culture at Castlight is respectful, collaborative and open minded. Engineers are dedicated to good quality work and responsible, going the extra mile to make sure that things are correct for our users. We are passionate about our mission to improve healthcare in this country. That's helps us feel like we are on the same team and have the same goals, which makes it easy to come up with compromises that we all feel comfortable with.

    Cons

Our culture is a bit conflict averse, so sometimes we don't have the difficult conversations early enough.

    Advice to Management

Give scrum teams all the tools they need to get their code delivered to production seamlessly without depending on other teams.

    Pros

Coming through the merger with clear direction and the teams are starting to norm. Our new combined products are being well received by the market. Great people doing good stuff in the world. One of the leading digital health companies in the valley. Anthem relationship is strong and getting stronger.

    Cons

The legacy business of Castlight is still undergoing high levels of churn. A few pockets dissatisfaction in the company as we continue to norm, but those are fewer and fewer by the day.

    Advice to Management

Keep driving clear direction in the company. Keep pushing on one unified culture.
