A Hot Mess with Some Benefits

Pros

Fast, paced start-up environment that really gives a lot of opportunity to learn on different sectors of the business. Work was mostly remote which did provide flexibility. Some amazing, talented, and heartfelt people are within the company who really do want you to succeed.

Cons

Upper management does not seem to care about employees as anything beyond assets to be used and discarded as necessary. Repeated requests for additional assistance or resources are repeatedly denied or ignored or “we are working on it” for months at a time. They are slow, if ever, to provide promotions or raises, and instead will constantly make excuse to string employees on for months that a raise might be coming before denying it when they could be more honest and upfront. There is a constant feeling of restructuring which usually means a constant cycle of lay-offs as they pivot to a new strategy and then a round of new hiring as they replace those roles with something different, which does not give a sense of stability. Employees generally feel undervalued, underpaid, and overworked with management showing fake empathy while making no substantial or useful changes to fix the core problems.

Pros

Some really smart people work here. Sadly, many of them are dying to get out because of how toxic the workplace is, but building those strong relationships was the ONLY highlight of working here

Cons

Toxic work environment- If you are thinking of working here, I would highly encourage you to reach out candidly to past employees and ask them what they think, you'd be shocked! Firstly, there are ALOT of people that have left ChargeLab, voluntarily and ALOT that were laid off and termed. Toxic leaders- From the exec level VPs, who I have literally heard say, how easy it is to terminate and end employments just because they don't like them, is enough to send a huge RED FLAG. These people don't care about their employees. Their patterns of layoffs, with petty offers, should speak for itself. Their history of employee terminations, with no empathy, is disgusting. I knew of this when I took the offer, and after I saw it first had, I regretted my decision. I resigned from my role, with my dignity intact, sadly, many have not suffered the same fate. Ask them about their company growth during the interview, and if they have had to terminate or lay employees off, and why? Genuinely listen to their responses in the interviews, if you don't see red flag, I'd be surprised. There is no work life balance- Once again, don't take my word for it. Ask people that are currently in the company and past employees. You'll get the answer on the truth, and not the lies you get fed during your interview. The toxic culture, starts from the top and cascades down. The VPs of this company are absolutely the worst examples of leaders. Being a manager and sitting in conversations and hearing them speak about employees in such a degrading way, is hard to get over. Especially the way they treat their female team members. I have heard first hand and second hand, of the verbal abuse many of the female members have to take at the hands of the ALL MALE VP team. I'm shocked they haven't had a law suit yet!

ChargeLab Response

We're really sorry to read this negative review. A few inconsistencies in this review stand out to us, including: • Mention of VPs on a "daily touch base," which is a meeting structure we do not have and have never had. • "Talking smack" about employees, which has never been tolerated at ChargeLab. • VPs saying it is easy to terminate employees—also nothing that HR or our founders have witnessed. • When this review was written, there were few "VPs" in the company, so we're not sure this review is about the right company. Nonetheless, we take feedback like this seriously and try to embrace the idea that "perception is reality." If this is from a real ChargeLab ex-employee, we're sincerely sorry we couldn't support you better in your role here and hope you've found a fantastic new position!

CEO is struggling, huge lack of vision.

Pros

- Remote work is a positive. - Some good people. - New Operations leader is trying to take control and run the company. (Kinda strange that he thinks he is in charge though.) - If it can pull things together it could make a positive difference on climate change.

Cons

- CEO shows consistent poor judgement and weak management skills. Doesn’t trust others to do their roles. Very inconsistent. If you ask around you find he has undercut or is critical of everyone? on the team. You’ll also find that everyone? is pretty critical of him. - There is no real vision for the company. It feels like floating in a void with an inexperienced leader heading into a funding down turn with no plan. - Morale is low after recent layoffs and how they were handled. One week CEO says everyone’s job is safe and two weeks later he announces big layoffs. - Ongoing changes to product leadership but never real solutions to the problem.
