Pros

Mission-Driven Work: Chartbeat's mission to help journalism thrive around the world is inspiring and meaningful. It felt great to contribute to a company that supports such an essential industry. Culture of Feedback: During my time at the company, I appreciated how feedback was a regular and integral part of career development. This approach created an environment where personal and professional growth was genuinely encouraged. Collaborative and Humble Team: Most of the people I worked with were humble, supportive, and deeply passionate about their work and the company's mission. This made teamwork and day-to-day interactions fulfilling and enjoyable. Focus on Innovation: The company's commitment to evolving and adapting to the changing needs of the journalism industry stood out as a strength. It was exciting to be part of an organization that was unafraid to try new things to make an impact.

Cons

Leadership Accountability: The CEO's actions often contradict the company’s stated mission and values. This lack of alignment undermines trust and creates a disconnect between leadership and employees. Inappropriate Behavior: The CEO has made inappropriate jokes and displayed hypocritical behavior, which sets a poor example for the organization. Leadership must demonstrate professionalism and uphold the values they expect from their team. Vindictive Behavior: The CEO has deliberately provided negative references for former employees, which has hurt their careers and professional reputations. This vindictive practice is not only unprofessional but also fundamentally at odds with the values of fairness and humility that the company claims to uphold. Immediate steps should be taken to address this and prevent such behavior in the future. Financial Mismanagement: Poor financial decisions by the CEO have limited the company’s ability to innovate and provide meaningful solutions to journalism's needs. A stronger focus on strategic financial stewardship is necessary to align the company’s actions with its mission. Pay Disparities: The decision to allocate substantial compensation to the CEO and other executive leaders, while much of the staff is underpaid, highlights a significant pay gap. This inequity undermines morale and contradicts the company’s values of fairness and inclusivity. Drifting Mission: Chartbeat appears to have become more of a lifestyle business for its leadership, prioritizing personal financial benefits over its core mission to support journalism. Leadership must refocus on the mission to restore integrity and credibility. These issues reflect systemic problems within leadership and require immediate action to align the company’s practices with its mission and values. Clear, consistent leadership that prioritizes fairness and transparency is essential for Chartbeat to fulfill its potential and regain the trust of its employees.

Pros

Team of empathetic, curious and thoughtful people who want to serve news publishing and journalists with impactful SaaS and data so online stories/content can live their best life! Highly recommend as a company and product. People are amazing and really trying to make a difference.

Cons

Like any other small to mid-sized SaaS company (especially the ones who support online news publishing) there's always a challenge to make employee happy and optimized in their role. However, Chartbeat does have thoughtful and SMART leadership in place to ensure and create proper systems and processes to guide everyone's development and success.
