I have been working at CheckSmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy work, repetative, a lot of the customers are nice.

    Cons

No real advancement opportunities unless you are willing to kiss up. Gossip through out the entire company even upper level management. Hours are long, always short handed. Company used to offer free lunch on Fridays, and free drinks, they took that away. They also used to allow employees to cash checks for free, now they will cash checks for some customers at a cheaper rate than what the employees are being charged. All around, this company does not care at all about their employees.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better than your customers. Promote from within and not on the basis of who can and or will kiss up more.

    Pros

Being able to help customers with financing. I like the ever-changing environment I find it challenges me and my co-workers. .

    Cons

Long hours for managers, especially for smaller volume locations. High turn over for some locations can be difficult for the managers and the other staff. No overtime is allowed.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to think about what they say to employees, some comments can be perceived as threatening. Have better teaching tools in place and train in advance not on the fly.

I worked at CheckSmart full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Checksmart is an excellent company to work for. The room for advancement is really incredible. Full time hours are always available. The team members are always meeting new people on the daily, the company offers many classes to teach tellers and managers about customer service, selling and compliance. There are also many locations throughout the valley to work in. The company also has great benefits and sales incentives. Overall, such a wonderful place to work for.

    Cons

The company does high interest loans, so the applicants are struggling folks and it can be hard to see people in such financial hardship. In addition, if the store is not doing well in terms of sales the Manager must work longer hours until the store is where it needs to be.

    Advice to Management

My advice to upper Management is to make customer service the top priority! Even more so than sales technics. Word of mouth will bring the new and old customers through the door, then we can upsell our products. Exceptional customer service and a happy team will make the company succeed the best in my opinion.

    Pros

Checksmart likes to spend money on technology.
Turnover is high so you can easily move up in the company.

    Cons

Many of their projects change directions mid-stream and you'll spend a lot of time implementing something that will be ripped out less than a year later.
They treat their employees like they're bottom feeding scum with no regards to how happy they are with their job.
Work/Life ratio swings heavy toward Work without any appreciation from management. They feel it's part of your job and you shouldn't complain.
Government wants to shut down businesses that prey on their customers like

    Advice to Management

Without your employees, your company model won't work. Try showing them you appreciate them and they'll enjoy working for you.

    I worked at CheckSmart full-time

    Pros

Pros- if you're looking for financial/banking experience its great. However this job requires people who can learn and retain information and the only screening they do is 30 question math test.

    Cons

Industry is going downhill and causing jobs like these to be more stressful than they are worth. You're pushed to meet sales numbers and the only way to do that in an industry like this is to put people in debt.
