I have been working at CheckSmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people you meet here are awesome. Prompted very fast. Willing to move you before they fire you. Encourage you to volunteer or raise money for any charity.

    Cons

Leadership is going in 2 different directions. No one communicates with one another til something doesn’t work and CEO comes and yells at everyone in front of the lower employees. Very few people are competent here. Very low pay.

    Advice to Management

Hire people for what they are worth and know what they are doing.

I worked at CheckSmart full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Amazing customers, great opportunities for those who want to advance their career

    Cons

Upper management change shows no respect/care, family members working within company do the job for one another and upper management does nothing about it yet others would have to struggle, you are suppose to be a high school graduate or have GED. Yet there are current employees that have neither? Honesty, ethics, morals have completely gone by the wayside. The company has gotten very sloppy

    Advice to Management

Respect the hard working dedicated employees you have. At one point, years ago this company cared about the employees that ran their store fronts. They were appreciated and acknowledged. There is a reason why this company has lost so many long term employees from the stores to upper management to corporate employees. Ted and Kyle should take a closer look, Jim and Jamie sure would have.

I worked at CheckSmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    $13+ starting wage
    Western Union
There really isn't any Pros to this employer.

    Cons

Everything. Check cashing fee ridiculously high, Registration and Title Loans that are impossible to pay off. Basically if you work for this company you have to be a bad person....CheckSmart takes advantage and capitalizes off of people who are on hard times and desperate. I quit after 5 weeks of not being able to sleep at night hating what I was a part of.

    Advice to Management

When interviewing ask person of interest if they are willing to sell their soul for a paycheck.

    I worked at CheckSmart full-time

    Pros

Flexible schedule, learning basics of finance industry, decent pay without experience. There is advancement opportunity without a degree

    Cons

Your standard of ethics will be pushed to the limits on a daily basis, male managers and district managers attempt to solicit "favors" in exchange for advancement or raises

    Advice to Management

Intentionally keeping lower income consumers in a state of desperation in this vicious cycle is deplorable. Take the time to create a better product for your consumers.
