I have been working at ChildServe full-time

    Pros

    Teamwork, wellness program, rewarding career

    Cons

Management is hit or miss, I've had a great manager here and a terrible one

I have been working at ChildServe full-time

    Pros

everyone is willing to help when you have a question or do not know how to perform a task, staff seems very down to earth and easy going, very well know company with a lot of heart and passion for serving children and familes

    Cons

little unorganized when knowing job tasks of new employee when asked about tasks, some staff are very critical on the newbies at times (mostly during orientation and training, sometimes not relevant to the job), TOO casual and unprofessional at times with dress or approaching employees

I have been working at ChildServe full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I love being able to help children and their families, even if it is in an indirect way. I think my co-workers are very welcoming. The overall culture is positive and inclusive.

    Cons

The non-profit pay is tough, but the mission is why I stay.

    Advice to Management

Have more clear career ladders and ability for certifications/furthering education for all roles. A lot of roles within the company appear locked-in due to a lack of knowledge of career ladders and certifications among employees.

I have been working at ChildServe full-time

    Pros

The mission of supporting children with special healthcare needs is important. Many of their employees believe in that mission.

    Cons

No paid holidays. Vacation, sick time, and holidays comes from the same "pot" of hours. Typically just shy of 8 hrs is what's earned every two weeks.

    Advice to Management

Paid holidays would be a major improvement.

    Pros

Great communication among co-workers and an overall fun work environment. This clinic is growing fast and has continuing education opportunities through the Des Moines clinic.

    Cons

I do not have a whole lot of cons in general. One is that since the Iowa City clinic is new to the Childserve family we are still undergoing many changes and we do not yet have all the resources that the Johnston clinic has.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice for management at this time.

I have been working at ChildServe full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The kids are amazing! It is so rewarding coming in to see their happy faces. The TCU/CCU is also a wonderful place because you get to do acute care skills, respiratory skills, and nursing skills all at the same time. It gives you a great chance to become comfortable with trachs, vents, and complex kids.

    Cons

The shifts are 12 hours, but can be negotiable.

    Pros

Great support to complete a CFY year. Get great experience in the field. Pay for some CEUs. Great team and collaborative environment.

    Cons

Scheduling is can get overwhelming with times and amount of clients on caseload. Benefits are marginal. Not much motivation to make someone want to stay long term.

    Advice to Management

Take better steps to make young employees want to stay and veterans to apply so you don't have a full staff of CFYs.
