Pros

Some committed staff work/have worked there

Cons

This is the worst employment experience I have had. It is an incredibly toxic environment. The owner is a bully and is driven only by the bottom line. They tends to hire young and inexperienced staff. They do not provide training or support and take advantage of staff. Very, very high staff turnover rate. They forced clinical staff to work up to 12 hour a day seeing patients. I can't imagine they will survive. Just awful.

I'm so sorry that you had such a negative experience here, but I can assure you, our goal is not to lead through fear. We look to empower our employees to step up and truly make a difference, but we understand that this environment isn't for everyone. As we continue to grow, we're definitely adapting rapidly, and we appreciate that you took the time to give feedback on your experience. We'll certainly work very diligently to ensure that your experienced isn't ever perceived the same by anyone else.

A challenge, to say the least.

Pros

The people they hire tend to be open, hard working, driven, and passionate about patient care at ALL levels. Everyone below leadership is working towards a common goal, and that unity makes Column Health really unique. For some, the schedule can be great in terms of flexibility! They offer plenty of holidays, PTO, and close during inclement weather. Snacks in the breakroom (when stocked) are really great especially on long days without a break to eat. Parking is available at 3 out of 4 locations, and all locations are accessible by public transportation. The clinic spaces are well maintained (for the most part) and attractive. Their embrace of technology at every corner of the business is noteworthy, but not uncommon of "start-ups" today. Casual dress code is a huge plus, but some do tend to abuse it. The company as a whole is actually quite diverse for its size, in terms of hiring POC, LGBT+, and women (more on that below).

Cons

Where to begin... Leadership operates in an extremely closed (literally and figuratively) space. It is incredibly toxic, encouraging team members to throw each other under the bus, pass blame when possible, and is constantly clouded by toxic masculinity. The parts of management/leadership that aren't male dominated, are primarily skinny, white, blonde women. While some reviews shared the positivity of career growth through promotions, many folks were promoted without any real training to assist them in that new role, and they were ultimately set up to fail. And please take the 5 star and positive reviews with a huge grain of salt - many were placed there to benefit the overall score and ratings of the organization (notice how many were posted on/around the same day...). The pay is sub-par for the area and when compared to similar industries, and leadership likes to blame that on being a "start-up", even though they've been in existence since 2014. Besides that, leadership (ahem, the male leadership) frequently takes trips to Florida on the company dollar. The CEO in particular leads based on fear based methods and regularly blames others (i.e. people he has fired) for the failures of the company, but very rarely shares the successes with the rest of the organization. There's also an incredibly apparent and uncomfortable disconnect between the business operations and medical operations of the clinics and business as a whole, and unfortunately the employees, and ultimately the patients, are suffering because of it. Given the nature of the business, there is an unusual amount of company activities (lunches, dinner meetings, outings, etc.) where alcohol is present - considering that one of the reasons Column Health exists is to treat substance use disorders, this seems odd and out of place.

One of our goals at Column Health is to empower our team members to have a significant impact on each other and the lives of our patients. I'm sorry to hear you had a negative experience with us. Not all management decisions are going to be spot-on and not all promotions will work out, but we will continue to improve our operations and will always remain mission focused; we are strongly committed to transforming lives by providing the best possible treatment for our patients. We understand this environment isn't for everyone, and we appreciate that you took the time to give feedback on your experience. We will work diligently to ensure that your experiences aren't perceived in the same light by another team member.

Pros

My time at Column Health made me a stronger person in the same way that steel becomes stronger when you set it on fire and hit it repeatedly with a hammer. Phenomenal coworkers. They were my only reprieve from this living nightmare.

Cons

I can't help but feel like the experience was misrepresented. Patient Experience Representative on the Communications Team is a verbose way of saying it's a job in a call center, but nobody would apply if they were honest about that upfront. At Column Health you are, above all, a team member, insofar as any group of individuals doing the same thing in the same building constitutes a team. As the saying goes, there is no I in team. This is not true. There are actually a few I’s in team, as in: “I sure wish I were allowed to take my break at the same time as any of my coworkers". “I can’t believe we only had one Spanish speaking employee during the eight months I was there”. “I can’t believe management told my coworker, a woman of color, to 'do the job she was hired for’ when she offered to run a DEI campaign at no extra compensation”. "I deserve better than this".
